Nicole Richie Receives Restraining Order

Nicole Richie has received a temporary restraining order against two paparazzi, Eduardo Arrivebene and Ivon Miguel. According to Richie, these men harass her "on a daily basis."

Richie, whose life has been documented by paparazzi cameras, is concerned for her own welfare and the welfare of her two young children, Harlow (21 months) and Sparrow (6 weeks). Arrivebene was driving when he and Miguel crashed into Richie's car and caused her "severe emotional distress." In a statement to the court, Richie claimed that the two photographers would "scream at me in an attempt to get my reaction, scare me, follow me, chase me in their vehicle."

Nicole Richie, who dates Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden, was granted a temporary restraining order against both men on October 30th. Further court proceedings will continue in upcoming weeks.

Jude Law Fighting Back?

Watch out paparazzi! Jude Law has a mean back hand. A female photographer is accusing Jude Law of hitting her outside a London restaurant and is contemplating taking legal action against the actor, although she suffered no injuries.

Harsha Gopal was part of the group of paparazzi snapping pictures of Law as he was exiting Automat when flashes went off. Jude claims these flashed caused confusion, leading the star to flail his arms around, hitting Gopal. Gopal told the Daily Mail, "He hit me full on the face, it was a real stinger, it was very sore. It was really loud - there was a massive thud and my face is still stinging today. It was deliberate - you could see it in his face. Maybe he didn't realize he was hitting a girl, but he could at least apologize."

Law's lawyer stated that the claims "nonsense" and that Jude did say he was sorry. The lawyer said, "Last night's incident was an accident. Jude was blinded by the camera flashes when he left the restaurant, raised his hand to shield himself and inadvertently struck somebody standing very close. He apologized and left. Pictures of this sort can often be misleading."

Tom & Gisele's Shotgun Wedding

Holy, moley! Imagine gunfire at your wedding reception? Tom & Gisele really know how to party. No, no, we kid! Check this story out - apparently paparazzi say they “narrowly escaped death” after being shot at while trying to get pictures of the Tom Brady-Gisele Bundchen wedding in Costa Rica on Saturday!

The supermodel's security guards apparently fired at celeb gossip photogs outside her beachside wedding to the Patriots football quarterback. We know those papz are pesky but I don't think they deserve to be shot at, right? Whatever went down, it certainly did a number on the rear window of this SUV.

This brings us to a good topic to discuss, do you think the paparazzi go too far to get pictures of our favorite celebrities? Tell us your thoughts..

Whip It Out Wednesday: Brad Garrett

Speaking of class and elegance...

Now, as a celebrity photographer, let me explain something to the unknowing public: there is a HUGE difference between celebrity photographers and paparazzi.

Celebrity photographers have established, professional relationships with publicists, movie studios, music industry insiders, and even celebrities themselves. They are often invited to red-carpet events, concerts, and other fun outings to get exclusive photos for their respective press outlets. They are often on a first-name basis with several people in the entertainment field, and though their photos don't make untold amounts of money (on average, my photos make $100 each in the American market; a little higher in the European market due to the strength of the Euro. There are exceptions, of course, such as a 1/2 page photo that sold for $1,000, but for the most part, $100 is the magic number), they have amassed enough of a stock to continually collect residual checks, and make a decent living in doing so.

Paparazzi, on the other hand, are ALSO on a first-name basis with people...but for entirely different (and uncomplimentary) reasons. Paparazzi are the kind of photographers that toe the line of the law by stalking, harassing, and cat-calling their subjects, and who show no regard for the privacy of their children and/or other, non-famous family members. Yes, their photos make ridiculous amounts of money (the photographer who took the first upskirt shot of an underwearless Britney Spears made my mortgage payoff amount), but they're often at the receiving end of countless lawsuits, and never have I seen a paparazzo live in a house and/or apartment worth any sort of value.

But while I agree with Brad Garrett's assessment of paparazzi not having a "real" job, you have to laugh when you hear a "celebrity" (term used loosely in this case) complain about photographers not having a "real" job. Well, boo-freaking-hoo, Brad: first of all, you should be grateful people care about you to begin with. Second, your residual checks from Everybody Loves Raymond alone are enough to keep you comfortably for the rest of your natural life.

And what, precisely, is it that you do that's worthy of being called a "real" job? You "act" like Herman Munster? Puh-leeze.

Don't Mess With Dick Van Dyke

Dick Van Dyke is probably the toughest 82-year-old guy around, or maybe just the funniest.

A few days ago he flattered to have his picture snapped by a paparazzo in Malibu, where an anti-paparazzi law is in the mix.

Van Dyke wrote a letter to the local newspaper claiming he laid the smackdown.

Editor: Monday morning as I was leaving the supermarket with my Raisin Bran and prunes, out of the corner of my eye, I caught the flash of a camera. Sure enough, it was paparazzi. Or maybe paparazzo, it was just the one guy. I suppose Monday is a slow day for celebrity watching. But still, he knew me! He saw beyond the white hair, the wrinkles and the pot belly. He saw a celebrity under there! I have to admit I was flattered by the attention. Did me a lot of good. However, out of respect for my fellow celebrities, I decked him anyway. Dick Van Dyke

Tobey Maguire Freaks Out On Papz

Actor Tobey Maguire, 33, and wife Jennifer Meyer had dinner at Madeo in Los Angeles last night.

After their date, Maguire became fed up and frusterated with the paparazzi when they kept flashing photos in his face. The swarming photographers made it hard for Maguire to see as he was pulling out of the restaurant and he let them know he was pissed!

Blame It On The Papz

Singers Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams are no longer a couple, yep, they're done for! The musical twoseom has split, a rep for Ryan Adams confirmed the news exclusively to OK!.

Ryan's statement to Ok! said, "Mandy is one of those genuinely sweet angelic people you wish to meet your whole life. I am grateful for our friendship and how it allowed us both to grow and learn more."

Atleast he was classy and eloquent about the situation. We have respect for him! Good parting words! The interesting part about the break-up is that Adams says the paparazzi are partly to blame!

He was not happy with the attention he got from dating the starlet. He has said, "Unfortunately I am allergic to paparazzi and have found the best antidote to that sort of nonsense is staying behind the guitar and typewriter, staying close to my support group of friends and band mates and not engaging in activities that prevent me from taking care of myself or others. I found the entire speculation and subsequent photographs and intrusions terrifying and only wish to live as normal a life as possible, so that I might always remain punk as f*** AND sober." Can you really blame him? It must be hard.

Ed Harris Shows Papz Who's Boss

Actor Ed Harris was not having a good day today apparently. The poor guy just seemed like he just wanted to work on his crossword puzzle. Harris was photographed leaving the Newsroom Cafe in LA when he got PO'ed by the paparazzi taking pictures and video of him. As you can see he tried taking the camera away from the young woman. Harris is the latest star to attack the papz.

Britney not charged in accident w/paparazzo

Britney Spears will not be charged in an accident that occurred last year when the singer ran over a paparazzo's foot with her car. The unidentified photographer pressed charges, but Los Angeles prosecuters said he was to blame for the consequential injuries.

The incident took place in November when a career photographer claimed Spears drove over his foot while in a swarm of paparazzi outside the Four Seasons hotel.

Deputy District Attorney Joseph D. Shidler reviewed the police records and a videotape of the incident, and he wrote in his report Friday that the "only way the victim's foot could have been where the video indicates it to be was by the victim placing it in that location."

The videotapes reportedly showed no evidence of a photographer being hit, but the attorney's report did say, "There was a lot of noise and confusion as the photographers were jockeying for position." It also reported that Spears was "driving at an extremely slow rate of speed and in a straight path."

The paparazzo filed the report in May, almost six months after the alleged accident. His police complaint reportedly sought a felony charge of failing to stop after an accident that involved injury.

Spears spoke to police at the time and said she did not recall hitting anyone. The district attorney's office concurred that they had no evidence to prove she was aware of leaving the scene of an accident.

In other Spears legal news, documents were released today detailing a request from her father for payments connected to his conservatorship of the singer. Jamie Spears filed a document seeking an undisclosed sum of money to help his daughter buy groceries, deal with child custody matters and to pay for visits he made while she was in the hospital in February and March. It also stated that he has held meetings to increase security measures at her house.

A hearing about Jamie Spears' temporary, joint conservatorship is scheduled for Tuesday.

Billy Ray concerned for Miley's safety

Billy Ray Cyrus told Access Hollywood's Billy Bush that he was concerned about his 15-year-old daughter's safety.

"You can't go and do something really great or become something really big without there being an opposite side to that," the elder Cyrus said.

The Disney star's photo value has shot up from just a few hundred dollars per paparazzi picture to in the thousands. There are reports that the first photos of Miley kissing are worth $150 thousand.

"If I'm gonna have people following my little girl, trust me, I want to know who they are, I want to know their names," he added. "... I go up and talk to them and just try to let them know that certain things are cool and certain things are uncool. She's my little girl, you know, so they've got to kind of treat that with respect."

In other Miley Cyrus news, one popular Internet blogger has reported that the 'Hannah Montana' actress is dating her back-up dancer Marshall, who is seven years older than Cyrus. And another controversial set of photos have appeared online, this time of the teen embracing her new boyfriend.

Lilo goes to ER for asthma attack

Lindsay Lohan's mother, Dina, informed People that her daughter went to the emergency room Thursday evening due to an asthma attack, despite statements from the actress' rep on Friday that she was visiting a friend in the hospital.

"She was losing oxygen. She couldn't breathe," Dina Lohan said.

"She was afraid to go the hospital because [the paparazzi] were gonna write about it. She was sick," she added. "If you were sick, and you're mother couldn't even take you to a hospital because paparazzi will fabricate some story, you know, it's sad. It's really sad."

Paparazzi had photographed 21-year-old Lindsay and her rumored girlfriend, DJ Samantha Ronson, going to the emergency room.

Dina Lohan said her daughter was lucky Ronson was there. "Samantha is an angel," she said.

Lily Allen is mad at the paps

British singer Lily Allen has been photographed in less than flattering poses lately - and she recently wrote a MySpace blog post (coped and pasted verbatim), ranting about the paparazzi's work and invasion of her privacy.

"For the record I was not thrown off anybodys yacht in Cannes , occasionally I drink wine with lunch and yes i swim topless , this in my book is not embarrasing behaviour," she wrote. "I'm 23 years old it's not my fault if photographers follow me everywhere and need a story to print with their pointless pictures ."

" I wish digital cameras hadn't been invented ," she continued. "On the other hand digital pictures are easier to retouch , so i shouln't complain ."

Although Allen does have a point, the paparazzi may not find her as interesting of a subject if she kept her clothes on!

Mischa Barton says photos were doctored

Mischa Barton was recently pictured sporting some serious cellulite.

At first the actress admirably defended the photos: "I like my curves," she told OK! magazine earlier this week. "My boyfriend loves them. So whatever works!"

"Every woman has cellulite," the actress said. "I've never claimed to have a perfect body."

Barton said she eats well, exercises and is comfortable with her body.

"If I'm in shape and I'm fulfilling my role as an actress, then that's all that matters to me. There's been a lot of nasty gossip written about me. If I was to cry over every single thing, I'd be the most depressed person ever."

She also said she thinks the paparazzi sometimes intentionally take unflattering photos.

"[The paparazzi] know they are worth more money," Barton said. "I've never claimed to have a perfect body, but it is what it is. I have a woman's body. I have hips and boobs so it goes straight there, which I don't mind because it gives me curves."

However, now the actress is claiming the photos were retouched.

"Those photos are doctored," Lisa Perkins, Barton's rep, told the New York Daily News. "I'm not saying she's perfect, nobody is. But they've given a 22-year-old woman the legs and bottom of an 80-year-old.

"Look at the shots that were taken shortly before on a beach in L.A. Did she develop all that cellulite in a couple of weeks? There's a lot you can do with Photoshopping."

Perkins told the New York Daily News that "parasite" photographer Jamie Fawcett tried to make Barton look bad because the actress was topless in the photos.

Fawcett denied the validity of the claim: "I wouldn't seek to publicly embarrass her with nudity or health issues or body image issues," he said. "It is a shame that publications tend to highlight an issue that is not fair to a young girl... However, sometimes these are the things that sell pictures."

The photographer sold the photographs to Britain's Daily Mail for an undisclosed sum of money.

Four Paparazzi Arrested

Four paparazzi were arrested in a police crackdown Wednesday. Two of the photogogs were staking out Britney Spears outside of a hair saloon, and the other two were waiting outside of a night club where Lindsay Lohan was reportedly patronizing.

After refusing to disassemble from the sidewalk, the four cameramen were charged with obstructing a public walkway and released with citations. The paparazzi were confused as to why they were chosen to be made an example of in this relatively everyday situation, when the police have failed to take action in the recent and considerably more dangerous celebrities car chases.

TMZ Managing Editor, Harvey Levin told The Associated Press. “We’ve been saying for a long time that law enforcement needs to crack down, that they’ve closed their eyes to a lot of dangerous things happening. The danger is blowing lights, running people off the road. ... This was not one of those situations.”

Nonetheless, at least the police department has finally decided to take a stand in a press situation that, as of late, seems to be escalating out of hand.

Julia Roberts tells off paparazzo

Check out this video of Julia Roberts tailing and pulling over a paparazzo after he tried to take pictures of her children!

The actress later told Access Hollywood that she disapproved of the photographer staking out a school to get pictures.

"If you want to take a picture of a person, then go to an adult place. Go to the coffee shop, go to the grocery store, go to the restaurant. Don't stake out someone's children's church, school or playground environment," she said about the incident.

Earlier this month George Clooney similarly confronted photographers for their dangerous driving.

Brit runs over photog's foot

Britney Spears drove over the foot of a paparazzo Thursday night, only a day after she lost custody of sons Sean Preston and Jayden James.

Video shows Spears exiting a parking garage in Beverly Hills amidst hordes of paparazzi. One photograper then fell to the ground as the singer's white Mercedes convertible appeared to roll over his foot. He quickly got up, but Spears didn't wait to make sure he was okay.

Other photographers at the scene allege Spears started to cry and drove off.

The singer is already facing two misdemeanor charges from the parking lot incident several months ago. Her arraignment is Oct. 25. No word yet on if the paparazzo is okay or if he'll press charges.
