The vast majority of men hate shopping. Not just a little bit, either. A brief perusal through the annals of history show men who have scheduled root canals, knee surgery, late days at work, and a myriad of other unpleasantries just to avoid a five-minute hop to the clothing store for a pair of pants to replace the pair of pants with the hole in the pocket (which no one can see, so no big deal, right?).

I know you have jeans, sweats, and t-shirts in your closet, but how about the proof that you can clean up nicely once in a while? Most men rely on their significant others or members of their family to stock their closet for that. They too, however, may require some guidance. Whether you are making that trip to mall, or they are, here's the shopping list:

1. Navy Blue Suit - Yes, navy. Not black. Navy. The black suit is for weddings and funerals, and even in those cases, you can get away with navy. It's nice to own a few suits. It's required you own one. Go navy.

2. Four (4) Button Down Shirts - For those of you who read my article, "Clothing Should Fit!", you are perfectly aware of how your Oxford shirt (button down) should be sized. Owning four means you have two with two backups. Here's how to break down the four:

**Two (2) White - White is the standard. We like standard.

**Two (2) Blue - One light, one dark, or two of the same. Blue is for mixing it up a bit, and trust me when I say you don't want to have every dressed-up day of your life spent in a white Oxford shirt.

3. Black Lace-up Shoes - No, not black sneakers, but black lace-up shoes. Yep. With laces. They even come with thin rubber soles now, instead of tractionless leather.

4. Black Leather Belt - I stress black, because the shoes are black. Unless you want to start playing around with fancier combinations, match the belt to the shoes. Brown with brown, black with black. Whatever with sneakers. Never brown with black. Ever. Period.

5. SOCKS THAT AREN'T FOR THE GYM!! - Every time I see someone in a suit and white sweatsocks, I want to pull them aside, drag them into the nearest store, buy them a pair of black dress socks, make them change, then resume whatever else I was doing at the time. Either that, or hit them upside the head with a blunted (or blunt?) object. To avoid either, PLEASE make sure you have black socks. Not sweatsocks, either. You can do socks that are more suited (pun intended) for this occasion without going all nylon. Trust me.

Foolproof. That's the only way to describe this list. You may need to dress this way less than a dozen times in your life, but make those moments count!

Invest in a regular manicure and pedicure. Not only will you feel good, but well manicured nails show you care about your appearance.

Make-up. Throw away old make-up. Cosmetics should be replaced regularly and make-up brushes washed. Go for a more natural day time look. For an evening look concentrate on either eyes or lips not both. Vampish eyes and bright red lips is not a look for the over 40's.

Dresses': Nothing more sexier than a classic dress. Whether, you choose an A-line style, The Shift or a Maxi Dress. The A-line style dress is very flattering for almost any figure. This is because the waistline is raised above the natural waist and settles under the bust line. Fabulous for: shorter petite figures and those who carry a little weight around the waistline. The empire line style of this dress creates the illusion of length and skims the body, camouflaging wide hips and a thick waist. The Shift dress is a timeless classic and is one of the most versatile dress styles that has stood the test of time. It's tailored enough for business and sexy enough for evening wear. A sophisticated classic black shift is a must for every woman's wardrobe. The absolute LBD. The Maxi Dress: So versatile and flattering to most figures. Every woman should possess a maxi. It is stylish and on trend. Perfect for daytime or evening. A great holiday look. Choose a glamorous flat sandal to compliment the dress and of course a pedicure!

Handbags: choose a bag shape that is in contrast to your body type. Voluptuous or curvy women would do well to choose a rectangular, longer

Trousers: Look for fluid and feminine lines, select trousers that are cut to flatter, that give an elegant silhouette. If choosing linen make sure they are lined and are a linen cotton mix so will not crease as easily.

Finally: Walk tall, be proud and be confident in yourself. Enjoy being a woman.

Designer Christian Dior is credited with coining the term cocktail dress during the late-1940's, using the term in reference to early evening wear. Yet the style had actually been around since the mid-1920's. Cocktail parties first emerged during Prohibition, and were held in private homes or speakeasies. Contraband liquor was expensive, so of course most of the attendees were wealthy individuals who viewed the gatherings as chic social events.

For the women attending, these drinking get-togethers were too formal for regular daywear, but too informal for true evening wear, so a new fashion evolved that was initially inspired by flapper dresses. Originally designed for younger women, the new cocktail dresses were short, and typically made from silk and layered chiffon. This allowed for the women to still look fashionable, without having to get too dressed up.

These new dresses then prompted the development of unique cocktail accessories such as small handbags, simple shoes that usually color matched the dress, short gloves, and a small hat. This accessory style remained the norm up through the mid-1960's. As you know you cannot be fashionable without a few accessories to go with your outfit.

After alcohol was again legalized in 1933 and cocktail parties became more and more common, dresses began to be designed for more mature women. Silk remained the preferred fabric, but the cut of the dresses became more refined and form-fitting, evolving into the classic "little black dress" that soon became a staple in every woman's wardrobe. You had to have the classic black dress for that particular party.

Today, cocktail dresses are suitable for both cocktail parties and semi-formal events. They come in a variety of color, print and cut, with the elaborateness of the dress, length, and amount of skin revealed varying according to the context for which the dress was designed. Even though hats and gloves are no longer in fashion, a classic, well-fitted, short black dress with a clutch purse and stylish shoes remains perfect for any informal occasion where cocktails will be served.

Staying true to form our woman have been able to take this outfit and keep it classic but still able to add modern style to the ensemble. One of the things that I like most about this outfit is the fact that not only are you able to it through various accessories such as jewelery and handbags but you can also wear the outfit with no accessories. Because it is so fabulous just by itself you do not have to put together a lot of pieces to go with it.

NEW YORK Thanks largely to the Jay Leno Show, audiences to the big three networks are watching more live TV in the 10 o'clock hour so far this season, according to data crunched by TiVo. And among the big three, Leno has made NBC the least TiVoed network in the hour, while last season it was the most TiVoed during that time period.

TiVo reports that for the first two weeks of the season, less than half of Leno's audience (46 percent) opted to view the show in time-shifted mode in homes with TiVo DVRs.
