Eddie Murphy is reported to be joining the cast for the follow up to The Dark Knight.

The actor, 47, will take on the role of villain The Riddler in the new Batman movie, landing the part ahead of hotly tipped favourite Johnny Depp, 45.

‘Eddie’s a fantastic addition,’ a source tells The Sun. ‘Everyone’s excited to see what he does.’

Jim Carrey, 46, previously played the role in 1995 flick Batman Forever.

Bosses are also thought to have hired Shia LaBeouf, 22, to play sidekick Robin, while Rachel Weisz, 38, is a frontrunner for the Catwoman role.

The sequel, tentatively titled Gotham, is due for release in 2010.

Third Batman Movie Takes Shape

They key to the latest Batman movie franchise is almost a lock, Christopher Nolan is on board. But that could fall apart as Warner Bros. wants Nolan to move on the project quickly. He is taking a careful approach to respect the character and fans. Word is Rachel Weisz may play Catwoman (wild rumour). Shia LaBeouf is also rumoured to be playing Robin. The latest breaking news is Eddie Murphy will play the Riddler.
PCM can tell you that the first News Organization to break this was The Sun. The Sun has a habit of breaking news without confirming sources. So we bring you this news with trepidation.

If Nolan stays on board, rest assured Eddie will play the Riddler straight and the movie won't jump the shark.

Superheroes top box office

It was a good weekend for Hellboy, as the film Hellboy II: The Golden Army topped the weekend box office, taking in $35.9 million.

Last week's No. 1, Will Smith's Hancock, dropped to No. 2, but still grossed $33.3 million over the weekend. Ticket sales fell less than 50 percent, helping the poorly-reviewed film remain near the top, according to estimates by Exhibitor Relations.

In third place was Brendan Fraser with the film Journey to the Center of the Earth, a 3-D remake of the original. It took in $20.6 million in ticket sales, knocking the animated hit flick WALL-E to fourth.

Meanwhile, Eddie Murphy's film Meet Dave came in a disappointing seventh, taking in only $5.3 million. It marks Murphy's lowest total for a debut since 2002's The Adventures of Pluto Nash.

Last month Murphy announced that Meet Dave would mark his movie retirement. He said he wished to return to the stage to do stand-up comedy.

Eddie Murphy Announces Movie Retirement

Eddie Murphy has revealed to TV show Extra that his upcoming movie, Meet Dave, is one of his last. The veteran comedian recently announced, "Fifty years (old) I'll have been making movies thirty years and I have close to fifty movies and it is like why am I in the movies…I've done that part now. I'll go back to the stage and do stand-up."

He's been around awhile, we don't really blame him. It's time for Eddie to relax a little and keep to the stage!

Melanie Brown will get revenge on Eddie Murphy

Spice Girl Melanie Brown is set to get revenge on ex Eddie Murphy when she writes a song about him on her upcoming solo album.

The 33-year-old singer, who has a 14-month-old daughter with the actor, has penned a hate-filled track to vent her frustration at Eddie, who she claims rarely sees her daughter, Angel Iris.

She told Britain’s New! magazine: “The working title on my new song is Beverly Hills C**k because that is what he is. He never bothers with his daughter. I mean, what kind of man is that?”

However, Brown admitted she may have to tone down the lyrics because Eddie’s legal team have asked to hear the song before the album is released.

She told the magazine, “His lawyers will be vetting the lyrics closely.”

Murphy broke up with Brown while she was still pregnant with Angel. He questioned the paternity of the baby, but a DNA test later proved he was the father.

Funnyman Eddie Murphy and his bride have SPLIT - days after it was revealed their Pacific isle wedding three weeks ago was not legal anyway.

The Shrek star and stunning film producer Tracey Edmonds, 40, last night confessed their whirlwind “marriage” had hit the buffers following their return to Los Angeles.

The break-up comes after the couple tied the knot in a romantic New Year’s Day beach ceremony on a private island off Bora Bora in the South Pacific.

It later emerged they should have lived there a month to make the marriage legal under Polynesian law.

Last night a “proper” ceremony they had been planning in Tinseltown was called off - leaving multi-millionaire Murphy, 46, in paradise over his lucky escape.

Lawyers for the star - father of SPICE GIRL MEL B’s baby daughter ANGEL IRIS - were double-checking with officials on the island that he was still single.

Only couples who wed in the town hall in front of the mayor are exempt from the 30-day residency rule.

Murphy, who split from his first wife in 2006 after 13 years, refused to comment.

Twenty-five guests were on hand to watch the two exchange vows.

Murphy and Edmonds began dating last fall and were engaged in July.

Murphy has six children, five of whom are from his marriage to Nicole Mitchell Murphy, and one from a relationship with Melanie Brown of the Spice Girls. Edmonds has also been married and had two sons with ex-husband Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds.

Lohan voted worst

Lindsay Lohan was the leading vote-getter in an AOL Moviefone poll of the worst performance by an actress in 2007. The troubled star's turn as a woman tortured by a sadistic killer in "I Know Who Killed Me" received 58 percent of votes.

The 3.8 million voters also expressed displeasure with another Lohan film. "Georgia Role" was voted second for biggest waste of $10 on a movie ticket. Number 1? "Norbit," whose star, Eddie Murphy, was voted the worst performance by an actor.

"300" and "Transformers" came in first and second for most worthy of a $10 ticket, and "Transformers" stars Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf won best onscreen duo, just edging out Michael Cera and Jonah Hill in "Superbad."

"Superbad" won the most votes for the funniest movie of the year, beating out Judd Apatow's other popular flick, "Knocked Up."

Megan Fox from "Transformers" and Johnny Depp of "Pirates of the Caribbean" were voted sexiest acress and actor, respectively.

Best villain went to Angelina Jolie's turn in "Beowulf" and Ralph Fiennes performance as Lord Voldemort in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."

Best sequel was "The Bourne Ultimatum," and its star, Matt Damon, was credited for best two performances in "Bourne" and "Ocean's Thirteen."

Lepaparazzi News Update: Scary Spice files paternity petition

LOS ANGELES - Scary Spice went to court Wednesday to try to scare up some child support from Eddie Murphy.

The 32-year-old singer, whose real name is Melanie Brown, filed a petition in Superior Court that seeks to legally establish Murphy as the father of her 4-month-old daughter, Angel Iris Murphy Brown.

Brown will also seek sole custody and reasonable child support, attorney Gloria Allred said at a press conference.

"I am here today for one reason and one reason only; her name is Angel," Brown said. "Angel is my baby and Eddie's. She will always know that she was planned and wanted by both of us."

Arnold Robinson, a spokesman for the 46-year-old actor, declined to comment.

Brown said she and Murphy dated for four months in 2006 before mutually deciding to conceive a child.

"The relationship was in full swing right at the beginning of my pregnancy," Brown said, adding that she was shocked when Murphy later said he was not sure he was the baby's father.

Allred said Murphy took a DNA test in June.

The test "established paternity but paternity has not been legally acknowledged," she said in a statement.

Brown, who dated Murphy last year, gave birth to her daughter April 3. She listed Murphy as the father on the birth certificate.

Murphy has five children from his marriage to Nicole Mitchell Murphy, who filed for divorce in 2005.

He got engaged last week to film producer Tracey Edmonds, according to Adris Debarge, Edmonds' executive assistant.

Brown also has an 8-year-old daughter.

The Spice Girls recently reunited for a tour that is scheduled to begin later this year.
