Comedian Russell Brand and pop singer Katy Perry spent the New Year in India on a vacation that was a Christmas gift to Katy, where Russell decided to pop the question! Plus, the couple (who have only been dating a few months) were blessed with "luck and divine happiness" by a guru right before midnight on New Year's Eve. Reports claim that "the ceremony is usually used to bless new couples in the hope that it might lead them toward marriage." After a few days of speculation, Russell confirmed the engagement by texting, "It's true. Much love," to the UK's Sun newspaper.

Russell Brand and Katy Perry are a Hot New Item

Comedian Russell Brand is so smitten with singer Katy Perry – who he recently enjoyed a romantic holiday in Thailand with – he has vowed to end his womanising ways.

"I think I'm in love," Russell said.

When asked about his relationship with Katy, he said: "I don't think I should be drawn on that."

Friends say the 34-year-old British star wants to keep the romance quiet so he doesn’t spoil his chances with the brunette beauty.

"Russell has had a crush on Katy for ages and was like an excited schoolboy after they got together," a friend told Britian's The Sun newspaper.

"He really sees her as an ideal catch and is prepared to stop seeing other girls."

"He doesn't want to talk about it yet as he doesn't want to blow his chances."

The 24-year-old singer was photographed in London with Russell over the weekend and despite heading to France for Paris Fashion Week, she is excited to return to the presenter’s home.

"She knows about Russell's reputation but finds him really charming and funny," a source said. "She's keen to make a go of it."

Katy and Russell were first romantically linked after the MTV Video Music Awards when they were spotted kissing at Lady Gaga's after-party at New York nightspot Avenue.
