Personal Color Analysis - Eye Shadow for Brown Eyes

Personal Color Analysis - Eye Shadow for Brown Eyes

By Jan Hawken

While the application style in which you apply your eye makeup will play a significant role in your finished image, if you select a good eye shadow color for your brown eyes, you'll be well on your way to looking beautiful. It would be wise to have a personal color analysis done to identify your most flattering colors to select from.

The general rule for selecting a good eye shadow color for brown eyes is to choose a color that is the opposite color of the eye color, or it's complement. Brown eyes have a little more leeway in compatible color selection than do green or blue eyes.

Blue The color brown is simply a dark version of orange. Directly across the color wheel from orange or brown, you'll find blue. So blue is the complement, or opposite color, of brown. Brown-eyed women wear blue better than do women with any other color eyes. The application should be light for best results. Try aqua blue and baby blues. To be sure to select one of your best shades of blue, consult your personal color analysis palette.

Green Green eye shadow can look lovely with brown eyes, especially if the eyes are more hazel than brown. Hazel eyes have a mixture of color, often greens, golden brown, brown and gray. The duller green eye shadows look best for everyday wear. You will find a good selection of olive, khaki or forest green available for purchase. Apply the color lightly for best results.

Brown Shades of brown can be an excellent choice. Brown-eyed women can always wear brown eye shadow. A flat, or matte, brown will tend to make brown eyes look a little sunken. You do not want this effect. It's better to select a brown with some shimmer, and then apply some crème-colored highlight. Gold makes a lovely highlight for brown eyes as well. The shade of brown you select needs to be in a lighter, or darker, value from your skin. At the same value, it would simply blend in with the skin color, and have little, or no effect at all.

How To Use Eye Shadow To Bring Out The Color Of Your Eyes

How To Use Eye Shadow To Bring Out The Color Of Your Eyes

By Aleya Bamdad

The eyes are often referred to as the window to the soul. They are one of the first features that people notice about you and a favorite one of many. It's important to take proper care of your eyes so that they look lively and bright. Eye makeup is a great tool to spruce up tired eyes or to help make a great first impression. When selecting an eye shadow color, it is important to think of the color of your skin and your eye color. Here are some tips on how to pick the best eye shadows for your eye color.

When selecting eye shadow for blue eyes, it's best to use soft, subtle colors such as taupe and lilac. While most pastel colors really bring out the shimmer of blue eyes, it is best to not use a pastel blue eye shadow to frame blue eyes because of the lack of contrast and depth. For those with blue eyes who want to use blue eye shadow, using a very dark blue shade is advisable as the darker hue will create a contrast between the color and their eye. The best shades for blue eyes is made by blending two or three pastel colors until you create a look that's perfect for you.

When choosing eye shadow for hazel eyes or green eyes, use warmer tones such as plum, brown and light gold. People who have green eyes can use different shades of shadow ranging from light to very dark for a striking effect. Although choosing the right color can be difficult for people with green or hazel eyes, it will get easier with a little bit of practice and color blending.

Brown eyed girls have the most options because any color eye shadow compliments them when applied properly. To play it safe, select a neutral color such as a copper or pink. However, if you feel like experimenting, you can blend just about any color to get a smokey, vibrant, or bold look. If you prefer to be more casual, you can use a solid color and not highlight the folds in the lids. In this case, the lighter colors will bring out your eyes while the darker colors will emphasize them. The possibilities are really endless when applying makeup to brown eyes.

Although you may not get the look that you want on your first attempt, it is important to practice until you find a daytime and nighttime look that's right for you. When applied correctly eye shadow can make your eyes look bigger so that they truly accent your face in the best possible light. We hope that these eye shadow tips help you out. Good luck!

If you need extra help, you can learn from a professional or take classes so that you can get in depth advice on how to apply make up properly so that you enhance all of your features.

Best Holiday Makeup and Tips - Look Your Best This Holiday Season!

Best Holiday Makeup and Tips - Look Your Best This Holiday Season!

Author: Stephanie B

Yes, the matte face look is IN for this winter. We can finally say goodbye to foundation filled with mica, and look forward to a clean complexion that does not shine like a disco ball. In contrast, sparkling shadows are taking main stage for this holiday season. Set against a backdrop of fresh, matte skin, perfectly highlighted eyes will stand out more than ever. This holiday season, your eyes will twinkle like the brightest of stars when encompassed in these gorgeous shimmering tones.

Some of the hottest eye shadow colors for the holiday season are pale sparkling gold, combined with any variation of purple or navy. Browns are also making a comeback – as long as you choose shimmering muted shades, or sparkling dark browns. When creating dramatic, sparkling eyes be sure to keep lips and cheeks subdued. Go with neutral pinks, browns, and nudes & either keep matte or apply a clear gloss. Avoid heavy glittery gloss on the lips.

**Don’t forget to use primer before applying any shadow or liner! If you have dry skin, try Urban Decay’s Primer Potion (www.urbandecay.com). This creamy primer will help shadow stick to the lids for longer wear. If your skin is on the combo to oily side, go with Mattify! Cosmetics Ultra Powder (www.mattifycosmetics.com). Dust it on lids, or entire face if you need an oil controlling primer, prior to makeup application. This helps adhere makeup to the skin, prevents creasing, and also protects the pores.

Let’s start with the purple and gold eye shadow combo. Purple provides a stunning backdrop and contrast to gold. The colors look warm together – but even those who have “cool” skin tones can look amazing in these colors. Create a new variation of the smoky eye using Stila’s Waterproof Smudge Stick Liner (www.stilacosmetics.com) in Purple Tang, along with Mattify! Cosmetic’s Purple Haze (a medium smoky purple) and Fields of Gold (a light glittery gold) (www.mattifycosmetics.com). Apply Purple Haze to the outer corners of lids, barely sweeping to the center of lids for a dramatic deep-set look. Swipe some Fields of Gold onto the center and inner corner of lids to brighten the eyes and provide a fun contrast to the purple portion. For attention-grabbing shine, pat some Fields of Gold under the brow bone as well. Not only do these combos work with nearly any outfit, they are also simple to apply.

Some surprisingly hot color choices for the holidays are variations of shimmering brown. For the perfect brown liner, try the Stila Smudge Stick in Lionfish (Shimmering Brown). Woodland Fairy (dark brown with gold sparkles) or Disco Sunset (a pale nude brown) by Mattify! Cosmetics compliment this liner beautifully. These colors make for an excellent alterative to the typical black used to create a smoky eye. Brown hues are easier to apply, and look warmer and less severe - while still giving your eyes a dramatic edge. Brown tones can be worn with almost any wardrobe colors. To brighten up the eyes, apply some Fields of Gold to the inner corners, center of lids, and/or directly under the brow bone.

Must Have Holiday Eye Shadow Colors:

Muted Smoky Purple

Sparkling Transparent Gold

Medium Nude Brown with Shimmer

Dark Brown with Golden Sparkles

Complete the look with curled lashes and a bit of black mascara & you’re ready to make a grand entrance at any holiday event!
