Apple's iPad 2 Announcement What To Expect From Apple's Press Conference

"Come see what 2011 will be the year of," Apple teased in its invitation to an event being held March 2 at which the Cupertino company is expected to unveil the iPad 2.

CrunchGear writes that the announcement of the iPad 2 is " a fact, jack."

So what might the iPad 2 look like? What features can we expect to see?

According to TUAW, oddsmakers at Bookmaker.com have even compiled the odds of seeing several different new features from the iPad 2.

The consensus among the numerous reports and rumors is that the next generation Apple tablet will be faster, lighter, slimmer, with at least one camera. There have also been rumors that the new iPad will have small speakers, that several versions of the tablet will be announced, and that it will not include retina display. There has even be buzz that the iPad will be available in white.

The Wall Street Journal, which has been correct in predicting the makeup of Apple products in the past, said "people familiar with the matter" told them the new iPad "will be thinner and lighter than the first model." In addition, the Journal wrote, "[i]t will have at least one camera on the front of the device for features like video-conferencing, but the resolution of the display will be similar to the first iPad, these people said. It will also have more memory and a more powerful graphics processor, they said."

Engadget added in a report, "The device will remain at 10 inches but will now feature both front and rear cameras (not a huge surprise), and... there's an SD slot."

Happy iPad 2 day! The Apple event is going to kick off in a few minutes (1PM Eastern time, 10am local) and we’ll be updating this page as soon as we hear what’s announced. We’ve already guessed about what the new iPad will be like, plus some very interesting photos leaked out this morning if you want to possibly get a sneak peek at the device. In case you are curious, the most prominent rumors are pointing towards the second iPad getting front/rear cameras, a thinner body, and possibly a larger speaker. It’ll also probably get better performance, with a new (possibly dual-core) processor and more RAM. There are a lot of other rumors though, so we’ll have to see what, if any, pan out. And let’s not forget that a new ipad isn’t the only possibility today. Hopefully we’ll learn about updates to iOS, possibly iOS 5.

And the event has started! Steve Jobs is on stage.

The first topic today will be iBooks- over 100M books were sold since the app was released and now Random House is on board so expect to see that number grow in the future.

And now for the numbers: Apple has shipped 100M iPhones, paid $2B out to developers, and has 200M iTunes accounts. Things are good in the land of Apple.

Apple iPads and iPhones are great devices for reading ebooks. There are many ebook reading apps available for you to choose from, and they're free! This article will introduce you to some of the most popular apps and give some suggestions on where you can find some ebooks for it. All of these apps can be downloaded from iTunes for free.

1. Apple iBooks App for iPad and iPhone

The iBooks app is the most native Apple ebook reading application that you'll be able to find for the iPad and iPhone. It currently has a 3.5/4 rating from reviewers in iTunes. If you are new to ebooks and you have an iPad, this app will be a good place for you to start. Since it is so integrated into the device, you won't have to worry about using any external software. You can also use it to read your own PDF files.

Where to find ebooks: iBooks includes Apple's iBookStore, where you can purchase ebooks and then download them directly to your iPad or iPhone. It's very similar to downloading music from iTunes, so if you're familiar with that, you'll be downloading ebooks in no time.

2. Amazon Kindle App for iPad and iPhone

The Kindle App was created by Amazon to allow you to read your Kindle ebooks on devices other than a Kindle. If you can't find an ebook in iBooks, you might be able to find it on Amazon for the Kindle. This way, you can make use of Amazon's large ebook selection on your iPad without having to buy a separate Kindle e-reader. The Kindle App will let you start reading on one device, and pick up where you left off on another device. Amazon has many classic books available for free that you can access through the app.

Where to find ebooks: The Kindle App is made to be used with Kindle ebooks that you purchase from Amazon. Find those in Amazon's Kindle Store.

3. Kobo App for iPad and iPhone

Kobo has free e-reading apps for both iPad and iPhone. You can use these apps to read ebooks that you've purchased from Kobo, even if you don't have a Kobo eReader. You can search for ebooks, buy them, and download directly to your device with the Kobo app.

Where to find ebooks: If you're planning on using the Kobo app, then you should buy ebooks from Kobo. You can download the ebooks directly with the Kobo app, or you can find them online.

4. Barnes & Noble Nook App for iPad and iPhone

The Nook App from Barnes & Noble lets you read all of the Nook ebooks on your iPad or iPhone, without having to own a Nook eReader. Barnes & Noble's Nook system is unique in that it will let you lend ebooks with their "LendMe" software. You can also sample any of the Nook books for free before you buy.

Where to find ebooks: If you want to read ebooks using the Nook App, then you should get ebooks from Barnes & Noble's Nook store.

5. Bluefire Reader App for iPad and iPhone

Bluefire Reader is the best ebook reading solution for using Adobe DRM ebooks on the iPad and iPhone. This app works with Adobe's "Content Server" which means you can use it to read DRM-protected PDF and EPUB ebooks on your iPad and iPhone. This requires "authorizing" the reader with an Adobe ID just like you would on a Sony Reader, Nook, or other e-reader devices. Library ebooks can also be read with this app (where available).

Where to find ebooks: You can use Adobe PDF and EPUB ebooks from just about any ebook retailer. This is great because it means that you're not tied to iBooks, Amazon, or any other specific ebook seller.

All of the apps above are excellent choices for reading ebooks on your iPad or iPhone. I recommend iBooks for those who are new to ebooks, and I recommend Bluefire Reader for those who are more familiar with using apps and transferring files between their computer and iPad or iPhone. No matter your level of technological skill, there is a solution for you.
