Rare Marilyn Monroe footage goes up for auction

LAS VEGAS: Candid footage of Marilyn Monroe on the set of her last completed film, along with memorabilia from other stars and movies, went up for auction Saturday in Las Vegas.

The two reels of silent 8 mm color film shot on the set of "The Misfits" was expected to draw starting bids between $10,000 and $20,000.

The auction also included the original disco ball from "Saturday Night Fever" and an original script of "The Godfather" signed by Marlon Brando. The sale was held by Julien's Auctions at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino.

The 47-minute film, "On the Set with 'The Misfits,'" was shot by film extra Stanley Floyd Kilarr. It features candid moments with Monroe and co-star Clark Gable, as well as Montgomery Clift, Thelma Ritter and director John Huston.

The film shows actors preparing for scenes, chatting with crew members and others on the set, and relaxing between takes.

"The Misfits" was the last completed film for both Monroe and Gable.

Gable had a fourth heart attack just after filming was finished and died Nov. 16, 1960, about two months before the movie's U.S. release. Monroe died Aug. 5, 1962.

Cathy and Rod McCormick, of Sparks, Nev., obtained the film canister from her father, Frank Hasy, Kilarr's uncle.

Items sold early Saturday included a suit worn by Elvis Presley in the film "Viva Las Vegas," which drew a bid of $36,325. Alfred Hitchcock's driver's license sold for $8,000, and an original "King Kong" French film poster sold for $40,625, according to the auction officials.

Anna Nicole Smith's former boyfriend Larry Birkhead attended the auction and spent nearly $3,000 on lingerie once worn by the late Playboy playmate. Birkhead said he was picking up mementos for the couple's 1-year-old daughter, Dannielynn.

Was Marilyn Monroe sex tape a hoax?

According to leading Marilyn Monroe expert Mark Bellinghaus, the 16 mm film footage of the star engaging in oral sex with an unidentified man is a hoax.

New York City based memorabilia collector Keya Morgan made headlines last week when he announced he sold the 15 minute tape to a wealthy New York businessman for $1.5 million dollars. The man said he would keep the tape from public view out of respect for the screen siren.

"You can see instantly that it's Marilyn Monroe; she has the famous mole. She's smiling, she's very charming, she's very radiant, but she's known for being radiant," Morgan said, as quoted on Defamer.com's post "Exclusive: Debunking The Marilyn Monroe 'Sex Tape' Hoax."

But Bellinghaus said after talking to Morgan on the phone for several hours, he has concluded that there are too many holes in the collector's story. He went on to describe Morgan as a "press hungry namedropper whose main objective is to promote himself and the Monroe documentary that he is working on."

"What Keya Morgan is promoting equates to questionable stories generated simply to sell another book or push another cheesy documentary," Bellinghaus told Defamer. "At the time of our conversation with him, we immediately discerned that he was one of them only out to exploit Marilyn Monroe and to come up with something new to fuel the rumour mill of her life."

"Keya Morgan's time in the spotlight for this recent spin is nothing more than an opportunity for him to do just that - soak up some extra time in the limelight with his invented story about a fake flick, at the expense of the legacy of Marilyn Monroe."

Marilyn Monroe sex tape kept under wraps

It turns out celebrities were making sex tapes long before Kim Kardashian and Ray J.

A tape of a clothed Marilyn Monroe performing oral sex on an unidentified man was bought for $1.5 million by a wealthy Manhattan business man Monday. The 15-minute, black-and-white film that was formerly owned by the son of a dead FBI informant was reportedly bought so it could be kept from public view.

"The gentleman who bought it said out of respect for Marilyn he's not going to make a joke of it and put it on the Internet and try to exploit her," said memorabilia collector Keya Morgan, who arranged the sale. "That's not his intention and I would never get my name involved if that were to happen."

Because Monroe was rumored to have had an affair with former president John F. Kennedy, former FBI director and Kennedy rival J. Edgar Hoover reportedly attempted to prove it was Kennedy in the film.

"The FBI agent that I interviewed said J. Edgar Hoover was completely obsessed. A team of nine individuals were analyzing the tape inside a lab," Morgan said. "J. Edgar Hoover brought in a few prostitutes who allegedly had been with President Kennedy and they tried to ... see if that was really President Kennedy."

The late Joe DiMaggio, one of Monroe's ex-husbands, also tried to buy the tape from a collector for $25,000, according to files on Monroe on the FBI web site.

Morgan, a well-known collector who has memorabilia from the estates of both Monroe and DiMaggio, said he learned of the film from a former FBI agent while working on a documentary on Monroe.

The New York business man bought the original copy that was owned by the son of the FBI informant, while another copy remains in FBI files. An FBI spokesperson declined to comment although he mentioned that Monroe's online files refer to the film but do not mention anything about Hoover.

Monroe, born Norma Jeane Mortensen, was a singer, actress and sex symbol in the 1950s and 60s who died in August 1962 at the age of 36. Her death was declared "probable suicide," although many individuals believed she was murdered.

Lindsay’s Parents Okay With Naked Photo Shoot

Lindsay Lohan’s recent recreation of Marilyn Monroe’s legendary final photo shoot with photographer Bert Stern has made quite a splash in the media. Like the original pictures of Monroe in 1962, Lohan was photographed nude or clad in seductively see-through fabric.

Both of Lindsay’s parents have released statements in support of their daughter’s decision to pose nude and believe that the photographs were taken in good taste. Dina, her mother/manger, told the press that she views the pictures ”artistically” and that it was an honor for Bert Stein to call Lindsay and ask her to do the shoot.

Lindsay’s father, Michael Lohan agrees with her mom and told Us Magazine “Lindsay is an adult, and she knows the direction she wants to take her career. It’s her decision.” He did add, however, that he does not intend to look at his pictures claiming, "That’s my daughter!”

Additionally, he expressed concern that Lindsay’s life might parallel Marilyn’s in more ways then just the photo shoot, and with the way the troubled young starlet’s life seems to be heading her father’s trepidation is not entirely off base.

Although Lindsay was aware that she would be posing nude in the shoot her publicist, Leslie Sloane Zelink, claims that they didn’t think that the New York Magazine would actually run the nudes. Personally, though, I think it’s pretty obvious that a magazine would want to go ahead and publish the naked pictures they just took, but maybe I’m just a little jaded.

Zelnik maintains that Lindsay “loves the photos,” and all in all the Lohan family seems to be proud of Lindsay’s pics. Watch the video below, and check out the PG version of some of them for yourself.
