The singer said to be seriously ill with a lung disorder

MICHAEL JACKSON looked like he had stolen a surgical mask yesterday as he left a health center.

The singer, said to be seriously ill with a lung disorder, covered his face with a white mask and a black scarf and hat in an effort not to be spotted.

But his crazy disguise drew fans to him like a moth to a flame and Jacko, 50, was mobbed as he left the Beverley Hills surgery, despite leaving through a back exit.

Realizing the game was up the star thrilled fans by stopping to sign some autographs before being whisked away in the back of a chauffeur-driven Jeep.

Shocking Photos: Michael Jackson suffering from fleshing eating infection

MICHAEL JACKSON is suffering from an acute MRSA-type skin infection which threatens to EAT his flesh.

The singer has been receiving antibiotics via a drip in a bid to beat the superbug, which sources say has spread throughout his body.

Jacko, 50, revealed painfully-inflamed skin on his face and hands as he visited a Beverly Hills clinic where he is being treated.

The stricken pop legend may have contracted the infection following plastic surgery on his NOSE, it was feared last night.

The 50-year-old Billie Jean singer is said to have a severe “staph” infection, resistant to conventional antibiotics.

Experts warned it threatened to develop into a terrifying flesh-eating disorder which could kill off areas of the superstar’s skin and leave him in need of major reconstructive surgery.

Jacko has been receiving antibiotics via an IV drip in a bid to beat the condition.

But the skin on his face and hands looked inflamed when he was snapped on his way to a Beverly Hills clinic during another week of intense treatment.

A source revealed last night: “Michael Jackson has a severe staph infection that he contracted during work to reconstruct his nose.

“The disease is an MRSA-style infection because it is resistant to conventional antibiotics, so he has been visiting a clinic to get antibiotics via an IV drip.

“The infection has spread throughout his face and body and is being aggressively treated by doctors.

“There’s a chance it could turn into a flesh-eating disorder where it begins to kill off his skin so he’s being very carefully monitored.”

Swollen

Jackson was seen twice visiting the same clinic within a week.

He emerged with his face covered by dark sunglasses and a surgical mask — and with his hair hidden behind a surgical cap.

The usually-pale skin on his hands and face appeared visibly inflamed with red and purple blotches and he appeared to have a severely swollen cheek.

US celebrity plastic surgeon Dr Anthony Youn, who has not treated Jacko but has viewed the shocking photos of the star, said: “It is possible that Mr Jackson has a staph infection or MRSA.

“This is called a ‘super-infection’ because it is resistant to conventional antibiotics. It does look like his skin is red and inflamed and has become infected.

“Staph infection or MRSA is extremely worrying because it is an aggressive infection that is resistant to most conventional antibiotics.

“In some worse cases surgeons will have to remove the infected tissue if it dies — leaving the patient needing major reconstructive surgery. It is particularly worrying if it is on the face.”

Dr Youn, who runs The Hills Plastic Surgery and Laser Centre and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, said: “Many people in the health-care system can contract this disease via cuts to the skin.

“But it is possible Mr Jackson contracted it through surgery on his nose. There are occasions where patients contract the infection during plastic surgery procedures.

“Doctors try to treat the infection early with antibiotics administered via IV drip — and in many cases the patient can make a good recovery if it is caught early enough.”

Jackson’s increasingly frail appearance has prompted speculation about the state of his health.

Last month Ian Halperin, author of a Jackson biography, claimed the singer was suffering from potentially fatal lung disease. But Jackson’s spokesman dismissed this as a “total fabrication”.

He added: “Mr Jackson is in fine health, and finalising negotiations with a major entertainment company and television network for both a world tour and a series of specials and appearances.”

The spokesman refused to return calls last night.

Masked ... Jackson greets fans on his way to the clinic for treatment

Jackson has always insisted he suffers from a skin condition called vitiligo, a chronic skin disease which causes loss of pigment.

Despite the dramatic changes to his appearance, he admits only to having two minor cosmetic procedures. He has admitted to minor work on his nose to help him breathe.

Last summer, the star was seen being pushed in a wheelchair as he approached his 50th birthday. The gaunt singer was clad in pyjamas and slippers.

Witnesses described the skin on his hands peeling off — almost like that of a snake.

Psychic Uri Geller wants Michael Jackson to launch a comeback

Uri Geller wants pal Michael Jackson to launch a pop comeback.

The psychic reckons Jacko, 50, will be revitalized health wise if he sets himself a goal to achieve.

‘Michael was always fragile, but he gets incredible energy, motivation and inspiration when he engages himself with music,’ Uri explains.

‘He has always lived through that, and when he’s not writing or producing, when he’s not dancing in that incredible way of his, all you really have left is this vulnerable person in a wheelchair. He should be more than that.’

Uri, 61, also defends Michael’s parenting skills. The Thriller star was criticized for hanging his youngest son Prince Michael Jackson II, now 6, out of a balcony in November 2002.

‘I believe he is a good father,’ he tells The New Review. ‘Sure he’s made mistakes – dangling the baby out of a window was not a good idea – but he’s a dedicated dad who loves them very much.’

Jacko is also dad to son Prince Michael Jr and daughter Paris Katherine with ex-wife Deborah Rowe.

Michael Jackson 'needs lung transplant'

Singer also said to be partially blind in one eye

Michael Jackson is suffering from lung failure, according to his biographer Ian Halperin.
He says the singer, 50, has genetic disease A1AD, which deprives his lungs of protein.
‘He needs a lung transplant, but may be too weak to go through with it,’ he says.

‘He also has emphysema and chronic gastrointestinal bleeding, which his doctors have had a lot of trouble stopping.

'It’s the bleeding that’s the most problematic part. It could kill him.’

Ian says Michael's had the illness for some time.

‘He can barely speak,’ he tells The Sun. ‘The vision in his left eye is 95 per cent gone.

'For years Michael has been working with his doctors to make sure it doesn’t progress.
'He has been on many medications that have stabilised him.’

Older brother Jermaine, 54, recently said: ‘He’s not doing so well right now. This isn’t a good time.’

Michael Jackson: Jackson 5 are not reforming

Michael Jackson has rubbished claims that Jackson 5 are reforming.

Older brother Jermaine hinted the brothers were ready for a comeback album and tour.

But Michael, 50, has no plans for a reunion.

‘My brothers and sisters have my full love and support, and we’ve certainly shared many great experiences,’ said the star in a statement.

‘But at this time I have no plans to record or tour with them.’

The singer is busy concentrating on his own musical comeback.

‘I am now in the studio developing new and exciting projects that I look forward to sharing with my fans in concert soon,’ he added.

The Jackson 5, whose lineup also includes Jackie, 57, Tito, 55, and Marlon, 51, as well as unofficial member Randy, 47, rose to fame in the early 1970s.

Maked his half century with release of 'The King Of Pop'

Having marked his half century on Friday with the release of The King Of Pop, a new collection of his chart toppers, Michael Jackson is taking a radically new tack with his next venture. The singer has teamed up with close pal David Gest to record tracks based on the work of 18th-century Scottish poet Robbie Burns.

David, a former I'm A Celebrity… contestant and Liza Minnelli's ex-husband, has revealed he and the Thriller star have given a 21st-century spin to some of the celebrated bard's verses, putting the likes of We Did Ae Fond Kiss and Tom O'Shanter to contemporary music .

"Our favourite poet in the world is Robbie Burns," he explains. "We turned his work into show tunes; it's beautiful."

Although they've already laid down the tracks it's not known whether the pair plan on releasing the result.

SEE PIC Michael Jackson snapped in wheelchair with mask and shades

Michael Jackson has been photographed wearing pyjamas and in a wheelchair while out shopping.

His bizarre appearance at a book and toy shop near his Las Vegas home sparked new fears for his health.

Jackson, who was disguised with dark glasses and a surgical mask, spent about two hours inside the Barnes and Noble store.

The pop star, who turns 50 next month, was accompanied by his children, Prince Michael, 11, Paris, ten, and six-year-old Prince Michael II.

The family were escorted by a team of eight security guards and minders, one of whom pushed Jackson's wheelchair.

According to onlookers he spent about 30 minutes in the children's book section before browsing for music.

One shopper said: "There were quite a few members of the public in the shop, but no one approached him. To be honest, he looked a bit weird wheeling himself around covered up in a surgeon's mask."

Earlier this year he arrived at the Ultimate Fighting championship in Las Vegas in a wheelchair, causing fans to fear he may have injured himself, but minutes later he stood up on stage to give a quick speech before the fight.

Two years ago he sat in a wheelchair as assistants pushed him around Paris's Jardin des Plantes botanical gardens.

A new double album, called King Of Pop, is set to be released to mark his 50th birthday on August 29.
