Are you using the right hair brush for your hair care and styling needs? I would guess that the majority of us just grab a brush, don't give it a second thought. However, the proper brush can make a big difference in our ability to style our hair, prevent unnecessary breakage, and can keep the hair shiny and healthy.

Hair brushes come in all shapes, sizes and styles and selecting the right one can be a little overwhelming. Therefore an understanding of the different types of hairbrushes and their use will help you in selecting the right one for you hair care needs.

Radial Brushes - also known as barrel brushes or round brushes. They are designed as a styling aid to give hair curl when used with a blow dryer. They are perfect for short to medium length, bob type hairstyles and they will add volume at the crown and smooth the hair shafts. Note: the larger the barrel the larger the curl and smoothness.

These round brushes also available in a heat conductive material and are called thermal brushes. They actually conduct heat from your blow-dryer so not only are the outside of the hair shaft is drying, the brush bristles are drying the inside hair shaft too.

Thermal Brushes - A unique concept, these actually conduct heat when using heat styling utensils, such as flat irons and blow dryers. Therefore, not only are you just drying the outer surface of the hair with your blow dryer or flat iron the bristles are drying the inside of the hair shaft.

Sculpting brushes are used for backcombing and adds volume to short textured hair or razor-cut hair with sharp edges.

Did you know that brushes with widely spaced bristles are best for long hair, especially slightly heavy ones like those made of heavy plastic, wood or ebonite, which don't cause static or damage hair.

Ionic Hair Brushes - these use negative ions to rid hair of frizz and fly-away hair. They add shine and a soft and smooth finish. Because they flatten each strand and force it to stay straight they do a great job of eliminating fly-away hair and frizz. You can maximize results when used in conjunction with an ionic blow dryer.

Above are just a few options. There are a wide assortment to choose from, for instance paddle brushes, vented brushes, and cushioned just to name a few.

The first thing a man can do to his tresses is to keep them clean. Some men may fail to keep their lock clean as they do not wash frequently. It is advisable to wash one's tresses at least three times a week. This will remove any dust or accumulated oils from the head and give one a fresh look.

It is also important to use lukewarm or cold water when cleaning your locks. Hot water robs the tresses of important nutrients and contributes to a dried scalp. This also makes the locks weak and may result in loss of tresses. Using a good shampoo will always be an added advantage for your head as it will provide nutrients to your scalp as well as clean it.

Choosing the best style for your head will enable you to maintain a good image. Most males do not have any particular hairstyles and this makes it difficult for them to maintain a good look. It is advisable to visit a barber who can help you and advise you on what style would best suit you. When choosing a hairstyle, you must pick something that will not trouble you and you will manage easily.

After washing the tresses, then it is best not to rub it using a towel. This causes breakages and damages it resulting to loss of locks. You should use a blow drier which is lowly heated or let the tresses dry by themselves. Caution must be taken when using heated appliances. These may cause excessive drying of the tresses and cause irreparable damage and loss.

Men also need to get scalp massages so as to enhance growth of tresses. This will also help in dealing with the dandruff problems. The dandruff can also be dealt with by washing tresses and using the anti dandruff products.

By wearing hats and caps during very sunny weathers, men will be able to protect their tresses from damage and drying which occurs when there is too much heat. This also causes lots of sweating. During the hot weather it is recommended that they wash their scalps at least once daily.

Besides all the above, the most essential men's hair care tips is that regarding the diet. The food that one takes largely contributes to the growth of the tresses and it is recommended that all the men eat balanced diets which can provide nutrients to their tresses. High water in take will also create a balance in the body nutrients and it is recommended for healthy tresses. Remember that the tresses are not just about women. Even men require to be conscious about their image and this includes how their heads look.

“We wanted to go with something simple, chic, and somewhat understated. We started off with clean damp hair. Once dry, I pulled the hair back into a low ponytail and secured with a bungee-band and did a fishtail braid to create a bit of texture and interest to the chignon. Once finished with the braid I wrapped the braid and pinned it into a chignon and finished off the look with Elnet hairspray.”

Here are some dos and don’ts from hair care:

• Brush before shampooing. A few gentle strokes on dry hair with the boar bristle hair brush will help remove scalp flakes, as well as stimulate the scalp and promote blood flow which is very good for hair follicles to pull in all the moisture and vitamins in your shampoo and conditioner.
• Trim your troubles. As the ends of your hair get older and damaged by rough handling, they become prone to splitting. Spilt ends are one of the most common problems to every hair type. Trimming them an inch every now and them will keep them healthy and allow then to grow well further.
• The products you use should be well checked by you. If you have colored hair, use colored hair products. Colored hair is weak till a long time. Don’t forget to deep condition them and never brush them when wet. Use a wide tooth comb or brush if needed.
• Beans, yogurt, almonds, vitamin E, vitamin B, fish and loads of water should be included in your daily diet. Anything unhealthy you eat will immediately show up in your health and vice versa. You can use natural ingredients for conditioning like egg and yogurt too.
• NEVER go to bed with your hair wet! Hair that is half wet is most easily broken, and if you sleep during this time, your hair will be rubbing against each other, damaging your hair in the most terrible way.
• Try an ionic dryer. Ions are atoms with a positive or negative charge. These particular hair-dryers bathe your hair in negative ions, which help break up water molecules faster and cancel out hair-damaging positive ions. Heat is however harmful to hair. Use heat protecting lotions and sprays.

Whether your concern is dullness, damage, frizz or fragility try some of these tips and be sure of have beautiful tresses! Remember, hair quantity doesn’t matter. It’s the quality of your hair that matters.

1. Apply mousse to damp hair from roots to end to create texture

2. For women with wavy hair, air dry or diffuse it, utilizing natural wave of hair. For straight hair, dry set with hot rollers or use 1.5-2’’ curling iron to manipulate wave into the hair. Don’t overwork, do just enough to create wave!

3. Tease the front to create base, at least 2’’ behind hairline – just past crown area (this will give the look stability to last through evening); leave out section of hair in front before teasing and pull over teased area when done.

4. A styling wax or pomade is also optional, nothing too heavy, just enough to manipulate hair

5. Secure bun then utilize loose tresses at front and twist into bun
