Dressed down day? Katie Holmes opts for casual comfort shopping day

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Casual Katie: Mrs Tom Cruise enjoyed a dressed down day yesterday as she hit the shops in LA yesterday

On Thursday evening she had looked every inch the Hollywood starlet as she graced the red carpet at an awards ceremony – but yesterday was clearly a dress down day for Katie Holmes.

The actress took in a spot of shopping at Barney’s in Beverly Hills wearing a pair of skinny jeans a pink vest top and flat pumps, a much more casual look compared to her polished appearance the night before.

Katie appeared to have forgone any makeup and had her hair scraped up into a messy top bun.

The mother–of-one perused the show section of the store enjoying a some alone time retail therapy.

Katie had taken centre stage the night before as her husband Tom Cruise was honoured by the Simon Wiesenthal Centre.

The 32-year-old actress looked stunning in the black dress with green sash, which she teamed with black sandals, as she posed with Cruise outside the event.

However, it was inside the event that Holmes really stood out from the crowd, as she glowed while applauding the honorees at the ceremony.

The couple were also accompanied by Cruise's 16-year-old adopted son Connor as the Mission: Impossible actor was presented with the Humanitarian Award - the highest honour bestowed by the Simon Wiesenthal Centre, a Jewish rights organisation which also educates people about the Nazi Holocaust.

Cruise, who played a German military officer who planned an assassination of Adolf Hitler in the 2008 film Valkyrie, was honoured for his support of the organisation throughout his life.

Absent from the ceremony was the couple's five-year-old daughter Suri, who is perhaps too young for such an occasion.

Late night? The mother-of-one appeared tired as she made her way around the store. The night before she had joined Tom at a party

Despite reports that she and her husband are planning to have more children, Holmes recently insisted that she is happy with the size of her family.

She also said that Cruise and ex-wife Nicole Kidman's adopted children Connor and 18-year-old Isabella get on incredibly well with Suri.

She said: 'They're great kids, a great brother and a great sister to Suri, and she's a great sister to them. It's not, "This is stepmotherhood and this is motherhood".

'I'm not worried about it (having another baby). She's got really good friends and great cousins, so I feel happy about it.

'We have a really busy household, and it's really fun and fulfilling. There's always something going on.'

What a nice change: Katie Holmes looks sunny and stylish as she promotes The Kennedys

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Spring style: Katie Holmes looked happy and chic in the sunshine yesterday as she arrived at Jimmy Kimmel Live in LA

We have become used to seeing Katie Holmes visiting Starbucks, with Suri in tow, looking tired, drawn and a little dowdy.

But since she's been on the promotional trail for her new mini series The Kennedys, the actress has really upped her sartorial game.

Katie was spotted outside Jimmy Kimmel Live in Los Angeles yesterday looking happy and chic in a spring frock.

A little bit of leg: The actress showed off her toned bare legs in a flirty frock as she made her way into the studio to promote The Kennedys

Giggling with her entourage as she got out of her chauffeured car, the 32-year-old appeared in high spirits as she made her way into the building.

Katie showed off her tanned and toned legs in her short polka dot dress, red heels and a denim jacket.

Her long hair was a hark back to her younger, pre-Tom Cruise days and even made her look a little like her most famous character Joey Potter.

Her sunny mood was in stark contrast to earlier in the day, when she was spotted leaving a Scientology centre in Los Angeles with Tom.

Watch my movie! Katie has been on the promotional trail for the mini series, which premiered in the US on Sunday night

The couple looked grumpy as Katie drove them in her Mercedes convertible, with Tom pulling his baseball cap low over his eyes.

But Katie was in fine form during her Jimmy Kimmel appearance, laughing and entertaining the audience with anecdotes about her home life.

She informed the late night host that they hold 'meetings' in the Cruise household, and that she has learned the hard way to pay attention during these family huddles.

'One time we decided to do some hiking in Colorado - so we had a meeting before our hike,' she said.

Serious household: The 32-year-old told Kimmel how she and Tom Cruise have 'meetings'

'We were hiking four peaks and I was on my Blackberry not paying attention.
'I thought it was going to be a long one but that's all I was listening to.'

Katie said she hadn't realised hubby Tom Cruise's idea of a hike was quite different from her own.

'Our guides pulled out these harnesses and I was like, "I have to put this on? Are we doing down the side of a mountain?"

From church to work: Earlier in the day Katie and Tom were spotted leaving a Scientology centre in Beverly Hills

'I made my husband go in front of me because a harness doesn't look good on anyone.
'So from now on I pay attention in our meetings.'

Kimmel joked: 'I can't believe you have meetings. In our house we never had meetings in any form - there was never a meeting!'

Katie's new project, The Kennedys premiered Sunday night in the US to mixed reviews.

Mixed reviews: Katie's new project The Kennedys received mixed reviews but was a ratings winner when it premiered on Sunday

But the eight-part drama, starring Greg Kinnear as JFK, was a ratings winner, drawing 1.9 million viewers, a huge audience for the Reelz Channel.

The $25million series has been shrouded in controversy after The History Channel pulled out of plans to air it, with sources saying they were put under pressure from the influential Kennedy family.

The network released a statement at the time, saying: 'While the film is produced and acted with the highest quality, after viewing the final product in its totality, we have concluded this dramatic interpretation is not a fit for the History brand.'

• The Kennedys premieres on the UK HISTORY channel on April 7th.
