"Glee" star Jane Lynch to host 2011 Emmy Awards

"Glee" star Jane Lynch will host the Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony in September, organizers of the television industry's top honors said on Thursday.

Lynch, 50, won an Emmy last year for her role as scheming high school cheerleader coach Sue Sylvester on the Fox musical comedy series.

The actress said she was "tickled pink" to be hosting the 2011 ceremony, to be televised live from Los Angeles on September 18.

"I'm looking forward to singing, dancing and sporting my finest tracksuit," she quipped in a statement.

Mark Burnett, the executive producer of the Emmy Awards show, said Lynch was his first choice to host the show.

"She has incredible comedic timing, and is a charismatic, talented actress whose energy leaps off the screen and stage. I am thrilled and excited to have her as our host," Burnett said in a statement.

Nominations for the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced on July 14. The awards will be handed out on September 18 in a ceremony broadcast on Fox.

Last year's ceremony was hosted by comedian Jimmy Fallon, giving the show its largest TV audience since 2006.

He says he may go with a bigger budget and more stars, if he does or not it won't change the storyline.

Emmy Nominees Announced

The 2009 Emmy nominees have been announced and the group has expanded from last year. Each series and acting category was made bigger this year allowing for some surprising contenders.

Family Guy has been nominated for best comedy series. This is the first time an animated series has been nominated since The Flintstones 1961. Family Guy will be competing against six other programs for the win. The other shows competing in this category are Entourage, Flight of the Conchords, How I Met Your Mother, The Office, 30 Rock and Weeds.

30 Rock, last year's top comedy series, has largest number of nominations with an astounding 22 nominations. Last years top drama series has the most nominations in its field as well with 16 nominations. The top TV movie nominees include Grey Gardens with 17 nominations and Into The Storm with with 14.

A new category has been added this year to honor comedy, musical and variety series. Nominees in this category are The Colbert Report, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Late Show with David Letterman, Real Time with Bill Maher and Saturday Night Live.

Some shows that surprisingly did not make the nomination list include True Blood, Desperate Housewives and Jon & Kate Plus 8.

The Emmys will air live on CBS on Sept. 20, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles with Neil Patrick Harris as the host.

The Television Academy of Arts & Sciences announced its list of semifinalists for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. The group will be whittled down to five nominees, who will be announced July 17.

Academy announces more Emmy semifinalists

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced its shortlist of actors in contention for the 2008 Emmy categories of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. The final nominees will be announce July 17.

The Academy decided to disclose the semifinalists since the information is often leaked to the press, anyway. Last week the contenders for Outstanding Comedy and Drama Series were announced.

In an unprecedented move, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has revealed the top 10 finalists for the Emmy Awards categories of best comedy and best drama, TV Week reported.

Comedy Finalists:

The Academy will determine a short list of five shows for each category, although as many as seven could be selected if voting is close. Officials said they decided to reveal the top 10 this year since last year the information was leaked early. The final nominees will be announced at 8:40 a.m. ET on July 17.

Katherine Heigl Disses Emmy

The Grey's Anatomy actress recently withdrew her name from the Emmy contention this year. Her reasoning? Heigl said, "I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention." Many bloggers and articles are now surfacing on the Internet claiming that by saying this, Heigl is really sticking it to the writers of the show. Do you think she meant to slam them for writing her a bad part?

Heigl then stated that she "did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials." We think she may be being a little too hard on herself. Is this an honorable thing to do or just a publicity stunt?

Sally Field is censored at the Emmy's

After accepting her Emmy for lead actress in a drama series, Sally Field began fumbling her way through her acceptence speech, yelling at the audience to hush so she could finish. Just when Field was about the go into an anti-war rant the network jumped on the censor button and showed a lovely camera shot of the ceiling.

Emmy nominations out

The nominations are in for the 59th Annual Emmy Awards, which will take place on September 16th. Most nominations were expected, however the NBC show 30 Rock received several more than most new shows- a Best Comedy Series nomination, along with Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin both being nominated. Another surprise it that the intense action thriller 24 was left out of the Best Drama Series category. The Sopranos is yet again heavily nominated, as is every guy's favorite show, Entourage. Tune in to Fox in September to see who walks away with the Emmy or just tune in to see if anyone pulls another Isaiah Washington.
