As much as I want an Air, every time I'm in an Apple Store I drool over the 27" iMac. There's just something about that beautiful aluminum behemoth sitting on a desk that says I'm in the right camp.

So somebody sues you for (insert nefarious activity of your choice) and you deny it saying you were nowhere near Location-X at the time. Then, under rules of disclosure, they subpeona your iPhone/iPad/MBP/TC to obtain your data. The data shows you were at least in the vicinity of Location-X and so had the opportunity to perform (aforesaid nefarious activity). They win their case and you are required to pay $250K in damages, not to mention the $50K you already spent in legal fees. Did you do it? Maybe not... but it doesn't matter, they won and you lost.
If the lawyer that you spent $50K on is too stupid to ask a simple question: What evidence, other than guesswork, is there that locations in this file are in any way related to positions where the phone has been?
On the other hand, what you describe here is not a scenario where you are damaged by some privacy violation, it is a scenario where you are damaged by the existence of forensic evidence that can be used against you. That's a completely different matter. Would you complain if your car was photographed by a speeding camera near that location? What if your car was photographed by a speeding camera that was setup incorrectly to the wrong speed limit?

This is my first post and I'm sorry if it drags on too long but I'm a recovering audiophile and I've been dreaming of a simple to use Apple experience from start to finish for home theater. A one box device would have to be bigger than the itv prototype but in the world of HT processors, amps, and disc players, the average size is much larger and all AV furniture can accomodate it. It could easily contain all the mentioned features of itv, a tuner, an optical drive, and modular hard drives similar to the Macpro to expand storage as needs (or finances) dictate. A surround sound decoder and multi channel preamp outputs would complete the list for me. I think a multichannel amp built in would be great, but heat might be excessive unless class D is used. Leaving out the amps would lead to another possible product, powered speakers and a sub. I'm picturing the style of the Hifi for Ipod. They could be sold solo or in pairs and would need only line level inputs. A price break to buy a 5.1 or 7.1 system would be nice.
A full featured remote would be needed, but nothing too intimidating or confusing. The click wheel can serve a number of functions by itself, eliminating some buttons, and we have all been taught how to navigate menus and exucute commands with it already, making the learning curve very minor. An lcd screen on the remote to view songs and albums without turning on the TV would make sense to me, similar to Sonos systems. The remote ends up looking like an oversized Ipod with the buttons added as needed.
I know this is quite a lot to ask for a first foray into this market for Apple but I think they could do alot with AV hardware, with a little help from established high end companies this could be awesome.

Samsung is becoming the most dominant consumer electronics company in the world: from LCD TVs to cell phones, to camcorders, to MP3 players. in 2006 they will have sold 150 million phones, growing much faster than Nokia and Motorola. Their camcorder business is just picking off with megapixel camcorders priced below $300. They are just now getting to be serious about the MP3 market. The YP-Z5 would have been one of the top players, had they decided to be agressive on pricing, however for some reason it's held very high selling prices throut the world. Now watch for the YP-T9, it will outsell iPod nano in 2007. It is ridiculously loaded with features and is much better priced than the Z5s.
Walmart controls 40% of DVD distribution. If the DVD goes the way of the music CD, they are not going to let this market slip away from them. They have just started selling digital downloads and have much more clout with content companies than either Microsoft or Apple.
Amazon.com rankings offer extremely limited view of the world. They are only USA, plus research shows that it is the preferred vendor for highly sophisticated users. The world is much bigger. Creative Zen Nano is #1 electronics seller at Amazon.fr and Amazon.de (France and Germany) you can check it out. Creative is not a powerhouse, though. Watch out for Samsung to start ramping up the YP-T9s next year and blow everyone out of the water. As it is now, they are on backorder and sold out at many outlets... Not expecting a huge update here other than Sandy Bridge, Thunderbolt, and 6XXX series AMD graphics.
Will the higher end models having the chance of 6XXX cards, will the lower end models, the $1199 and the $1499 have better graphics like 5XXX with 1GB GDDR5 or do you all think that they will stay the same? I say that the refresh will happen on either May 3 or May 10. If it does not happen on either of these days, it will happen at WWDC.

The PSU on the Mac Pro is rated for 980 W of power, but for simplicity sake let's say 1 kW. Now, factor in the Super drive, Ethernet, Airport, at least 1 HDD and peripheral docks/cards you are looking at ~100 W. Take into account a 20 W per 1GB of memory (assume 6GB) and you've got ~120 W more. So far ~ 220 W more.
DDR3 DIMMs don't consume anything like 20W each. More like 20W for the whole 6 DIMMs you are talking about.
The 6970 uses around 190W at peak load from the reviews I've seen. People already have working 6970s, GTX 480s and GTX 580s on all models of Mac Pros - under windows, but that makes no difference. The power supply is enough to run these cards.
Anyway they still don't work in OS X on the Mac Pro, despite all these news stories: http://forum.netkas.org/index.php/topic,804.0.html

Wireless iPod? I just don't see the point. Given how energy dense batteries are today syncing with iTunes would drain the battery in no time.
Wireless headsets? Big cluncky things that needs to be charged too.
The only rational for a wireless iPod would be if it became more of a PDA with GPS, or if went iPhone.
That is what i don't get, what is really going to be included in a wireless iPod? The only thing i could see is that it gets the ability to purchase music from iTunes or you stream internet radio or something. Also, the waste of wireless syncing to a computer. Am i missing something bigger?

Personally my Mac Pro has 1 GB DIMMs in A1, A2, B1, and B2, and 512 MB DIMMs in A3, A4, B3, B4 (since the model I picked up from Apple had the four 512 MB DIMMs in it)... yields a total of 6 GB of RAM.
This result in each channel connecting to a matching DIMM mix in a matching progression... ideally allowing the memory controller to have an easier time of muxing access to the RAM (in terms of a more optimal interleaving configuration).
Of course if 512 modules only can feed the AMB at half bandwidth relative to 1 GB (or greater modules) then removing them from the system could improve overall throughput (assuming they get hit) ... however latency difference may mitigate that ... hard to answer without real-world profiling with the tasks you most often do.
...off to find docs on Intel memory controller for information on how it handles things...

I disagree. After all, its in the USA and shipping times are slashed. I bought a couple iPhone cases and whenever I've had issues with the case, they always solved it. I can't say the same about sellers from Hong Kong that just don't care.

It's not that I know anything - it's just that it's so bloody obvious that nothing in Apple's current lineup is even remotely suitable for a home theater PC....
However, a Conroe in a DVD-player sized case, with 2 or 3 500GB or 750GB drives, a couple of TV tuners (SD and HD), FrontRow on steroids - then you'd have something.
Take a peek at what available in Windows for the Home Theatre space - like: http://www.acedigitalhome.com/limited.htm

My dermashot case came in on Friday.. been using it since.
My initial thoughts - this case looks cheap and has a loose feel.
My thoughts now - the case has a nice style and even though it is not as snug as it should be, it fits fine. It has not fallen off at all and has a real nice feel too.
As one of the first to get the Dermashot (see earlier posts in this thread), I’ve been living with it for a while now...and the loose fit has really become annoying. Sometimes, I have to “feel around” to get the power to toggle off since the button doesn’t want to stay properly aligned with the corresponding “lump” on the case.
The one upside is that it does keep its nice jet black finish—isn’t a dust or fingerprint magnet like others.
My quest for the perfect case continues...... :(

Well I really can't judge it until I'm actually able to touch and use it myself, but from the looks, they've gone consumer. *here's hoping for the best* I really want it to work... but Adobe is looking better by the day.

I bought a protective case to put something I invested a lot of money in, And IF anyone cared to read my replies to your jerky comments, I explained that I plan on putting a SECOND pair of glasses in the case, Which would cost 400-500 dollars, Which is a great amount of money to me, So I don't want to break them.
I find it repulsing that so many people on here find my latest purchase SO DISTURBING and bothering to them that they feel they need to make me feel bad about it.

I like that concept... not owning a microwave. Encourages you to eat fresh and reheat things the proper way. :)
Honestly, it was more or less just how it's worked out. I moved and have no microwave any longer. I could buy one but I'm looking to see how long I can hold out. So far I did miss it when I needed to reheat turkey dinner, but 20 minutes tops to preheat and heat up leftovers in a pan didn't actually feel like I wasted any time. Plus, things seem to heat up more evenly.
When my family came they were shocked to see I had no microwave. They were a bit confused but had to figure out what to do just like I have. We'll see how quickly I fold. So far it's been 2 months.
I have a true steamer for veggies, a stove for everything else, and now a popcorn popper for those movie nights. I have a glass stovetop so making a pot of popcorn is not only bad for my stove, but not easy.
Yeah, but I had to return it as it was defective. The seat wasn't level- it slanted to the left. I think that once I put it together, the hardware warped the seat. Initially I exchanged it, but the same thing happened with the replacement. I returned that for a refund, and have been on the hunt for a new chair ever since. I think this one is a winner.
Is that popcorn machine an air-popper, or do you need to use oil?

Honestly, it was more or less just how it's worked out. I moved and have no microwave any longer. I could buy one but I'm looking to see how long I can hold out. So far I did miss it when I needed to reheat turkey dinner, but 20 minutes tops to preheat and heat up leftovers in a pan didn't actually feel like I wasted any time. Plus, things seem to heat up more evenly.
When my family came they were shocked to see I had no microwave. They were a bit confused but had to figure out what to do just like I have. We'll see how quickly I fold. So far it's been 2 months.
I have a true steamer for veggies, a stove for everything else, and now a popcorn popper for those movie nights. I have a glass stovetop so making a pot of popcorn is not only bad for my stove, but not easy.
Yeah, but I had to return it as it was defective. The seat wasn't level- it slanted to the left. I think that once I put it together, the hardware warped the seat.
