Apple will likely introduce a semi portable touch screen mac, that uses an arm chip under the hood for power savings. Since all the touch based software will need to be recompiled with a rethought UI, it's no big deal to ask developers of the Mac App Store to jump on with retargeted software that's not too different from the iPad launch.

Britain is halfway between imperial and metric. Which makes a lot of sense. We are fatter than the Italians and French, but not as fat as you Yanks. The French in particular look down on British cooking, but not as much as American cooking! British cheese isn't as good as French/Italian but is a damn sight better than that plastic American stuff.

As for having a feel for the numbers, he's not alone. I have nearly 20 years of professional experience using Imperial units as a mechanical engineer, as does every mechanical engineer in the U.S. Switching systems (or, rather, making it mandatory) will require all of these engineers to re-learn the formulae they've known and used for decades. That's the equivalent of millions of man-years of engineering experience down the drain. That isn't progress, no matter how much you might want want to believe it is.

A few reasons why Android is beating iPhone:
1)Android has always been, and always will be, on tons of cell carriers. Apple? Not until their 4th "generation" of their phone (5 years I think) has Apple allowed other carriers other than AT&T. Oh, and right now it's still just ATT and Verizon. Thus millions of consumers have been able to buy the Android on their current/favorite cell carrier.
2)Android phones come from various manufacturers with different pricepoints and different designs. Apple is Apple. I'm not complaining, I'm just stating the fact that there are more choices again for potential Android customers at the phone level.
3)Although I love my 3GS, I've seen a few family members (who actually WANTED the iPhone but Verizon simply didn't have it so they got the Android) with Androids and I have to say it's pretty darn good.
4)AntennaGate...whether you believe it or not...was the talk of the world for several months in 2010...bad PR on many levels for Apple when the Android was making its debut. Apple's crappy response after response made Apple look like Scrooge. Apple gives away $0.89 "bumpers" to limited users for a limited time and that, in Apple's eyes, makes everything good. What a joke...and nobody was laughing.
5)iPhone 5...nobody knows when but best reports are Sep 2011 (5 months from now)...I think many people with an iPhone 3GS or non-smartphone who want a smartphone don't want to buy a last year's full-price iPhone 4 right now WHILE THEY MAY POSSIBLY HAVE TO CHOOSE a new phone/contract and are opting to try Android. My ATT contract expires in Sep this year and I have to say, I ain't waiting later than Thanksgiving for the iPhone 5...a)I want off ATT and b)There will be plenty of Androids out in Thanksgiving that will blow away my iPhone 3GS.
Again, overall I love my iPhone 3GS. I think the 4 has much better camera/video quality and Facetime but that's really it. Hopefully iPhone 5 will have a much sweeter camera, some major iOS enhancements (features), and larger storage for the phones (32GB min, 64GB) WHILE COSTING LESS.

If they are using the App Store for distribution then I'd assume a new feature of Lion is "Build a Recovery DVD". That means you can write your own install DVD to be used after a crash.One would hope.

I voted positive.. It's only good for us that there are multiple modern, solid, successful handheld OS around. I hope Win Mobile gets some share too.
Quite funny seeing Symbian dying by the side of the road too, I've never liked it much despite loving some of Nokia's hardware choices.
I prefer my Apple-land devices but I can see why some people don't. :) Bring on the competition. I like Apple's slow but steady and generally well implemented feature roll-outs too.. Agree about the notification system though, it needs replacing.

That's not going to change. I'm fairly sure Apple wouldn't give a rip if some random Joe made a Scion theme. It's the fact that it's advertising that Apple won't get any part of. Certainly understandable that they would take this action. I really couldn't care less either way, though.

How long did Apple spend announcing the iPhone 3GS at WWDC in 2009? It was about 15 minutes at most. If the next iPhone is only a slight bump like the 3GS was then that's all the time and attention that needs to be given to it.

This is great and bad at the same time for me. I'm so happy that they'll finally move to Merom. However, I've been holding off an MBP since mid-April. I was really hoping to get one after WWDC. If it's true that they may launch it in September, I may not be able to get it in time for school, and the ipod rebate may be over.

$149 for 5 accounts; only 30 bucks per account per year seems like a good deal for us. Even though our kids are grown they still like having it. And the 10GB storage on the sub-accounts is still big enough to be useful.
But I just got the email notice that mine/ours is just about to renew, too. To have it become free for new users in a week, or a month, even, would be somewhat of a bite . . .

Eh... yeah. Of course I have a MacBook on the way! :( Not a huge deal, but having a 64 bit processor would be nice! But then, my company is buying it for me, so I guess it doesn't really matter in the end anyway. ;)

I've also had a look at the apple store shipment times, and I'm sorry to say that the 15" mbp's are still shipping in '1-3 business days'. I hope they won't restrict the processor/platform update (if there would be one) to the 17 model.

That's €400 more expensive than the current top model, which is €400 more expensive than the low-end iMac. Seems logical to me, maybe not so reasonable, but reason is soooo overrated these days! :D

The biggest hangup of theirs is probably the sale of media and ringtones. They simply probably do NOT want Apple to provide the solution. Even if Apple's storefront is better, they will not want money going elsewhere.
that said, Apple's best option here is to simply launch the product themselves. Offer a GSM phone that is unlocked. The phone companies will get a clue later on when people want the product

Consider this. Let's say Apple does something along the lines we're predicting, and sells their phones. Before we plunk down our money, we go around to the various cell carriers and inquire if they'll let us bring our phone to their network. They say either "NO!" or "Not at this time."
Do you still spend your money on Apple's product? I mean, what good's a cell phone (especially if it's more than just a few dollars) if you can't even talk to anybody on it? So, the cell phone companies basically keep Apple from going anywhere, and since they would do this from the start, they could ultimately report back to their bosses (and then onto their shareholders) that, "Oh no, we didn't really screw ourselves out of a lucrative market." on the premise that it isn't lucrative until tons of people are in that market (none of whom would be, since this is basically a giant "chicken-n-egg" scenario with the onus and the expense all stuck squarely on the shoulders of the general public.)
What would make absolutely more sense is for Apple to simply start up their own network. They've already acquired some assets in this area, haven't they? So why not bide their time until they can really roll the thing out? And since it is relatively common practice for cell towers to have more than one (sometimes several) carriers' equipment mounted on them, Apple could buy into who's-ever network they needed to get one of the "lesser third party" broadcast equipment sets that's already out there among the masses.
It could operate something like how Claris used to work, being a division (but a spun-off one) of Apple. It would be an interesting back-door type of approach to the whole equation.
