Niiice. If only I could use the cloud service as a TimeMachine, would be a lot better than using an external HD (if someone is going to break into my room and take my MBP, they'll probably nick my external HD as well).

I don't see this replacing the Mac Pro Tower. I see it as another solution within the Mac Pro family aimed at the Final Cut Pro Market where the use of several 3U Form Factor Systems would be used for Distributed Compiling/Rendering, etc.
It would be clearly also targeted for Engineering, Medical, Bio-sciences, etc where using OpenCL and GCD in their apps would provide a huge collection of streams/cores to leverage.
The Xserve was pretty much another solution too. Same hardware different form factor.

Not sure what you guys think about this, but I think it would make sense on the iPhone if they somehow integrate iAds into it... otherwise I'm not sure why they would take a $99 service and make it free.
Because they aren't making any money off it now and making it free with iAds built in could bring in more profit for them?
It's the same reason Google can afford gmail with 8GB of storage for tens of millions of accounts.
Apple could make a bit of a profit integrating iWork/MobileMe/Lala along with iAds.

Yeah, that was prior to the invites sent out. Jobs from experience will be pitching the movie store hard..meaning the laptop updates have to take a back seat for now. I mean they announced a 24" iMac quietly just to give you an idea of how important this is to them. Laptop updates? i wouldnt count on it...at least for now
Agree with you! Also, people tend to forget that Apple split into two divisions - one media and one computers (not the official titles, but that's basically how it works). Anyone who has worked in a large company knows that those two divisions will not cooperate because that's what always happens. Expect only iPod related stuff this week because it's the iPod group's big event. Why would they give the glory away to the other guys? :rolleyes:

Android costs money to develop. Android from what has been put out there is free for companies to use with no licensing fee. So how is Google able to generate money to pay people to code and maintain the software?
1. Google is generating money through it's normal search business which is well documented to know where you are at (physically and on the web) and where you have been (on the web).
2. Google is generating money through advertising generated via the Android platform. If this is the case, it would seem very like they would employ the same tactics used in standard desktop web advertising in the mobile spectrum. Of course, when iPhone becomes available on Sprint and T-Mo, then I'd expect it to have an overall sales ratio of about 2-to-1 against Android. Perhaps somewhat less if those prepaid super-cheap Android phones take off, perhaps somewhat more if Windows Phone 7 eventually starts to steal some of Android's share.

Looking closer, I can immediately see how they squeeze it into both of these computers...the trackpad isn't in the center of the laptop. How freaking messed up is that? They slid it over the to the left so that the optical drive could fit. That would bug the heck out of me.
And obviously the guy who decided to design it that way was a leftie...
It would be OK, if you could choose what side ou put the track pad and CD drive on. It would be OK if it was off centre to the right, as I'm right handed, but moving my right hand to the left side would no doubt feel wierd and awkward.

Two reporters sitting next to each other with same Notebooks Except For The Processor. Doing the same things. One makes it to 3 hours while the other makes it to 5 hours. Did you watch the video on my revised post with the link to it? These guys were at the Core 2 Duo launch last week. You gonna call them liars?

Cry me a river if you're using Yonah. Unless you need 64-bit or are encoding video/audio 24/7 on your laptop the gains aren't paramount.

From what i'm reading you won't be able to take full advantage of the processing power til santa rosa comes out (early 2007). And at that point it will use more power reducing the hight bat. life expectations. And the low voltage chips aren't due out til that time too. So after reading this, i say if you really want a good merom working computer, get one in jan. Or forget the wait and get one now. But sept doesn't look like a good time to buy then.

I bet ya a Core 2 Duo processor in my new macbook that Apple will be showcasing some more (of the cooler) applications in Leopard. I wouldn't be suprised if they sync up to a new Ipod or Iphone.
