Hey everyone,
There is no guarantee at Best Buy of any White Iphones but make sure you preorder the Black Iphone right away to ensure you get one ASAP. It's all up to Apple now as to when we'll get the Iphone at our Best Buy Store. We are not preordering WHITE Iphones anymore because even Apple is not preordering them. Best Advice for all customers is to hurry and preorder one so your name is on the list. Good luck.

What about the mid 2009 white MacBooks?
That was the last non-LED white MacBook. Is there a firmware update for that to unlock support for 8 GB RAM?

I dont know what is going on...but i preordered my Iphone4 on the 15th and received a confirmation email and so on and so forth saying it would be delivered on the 24th. They charged my credit card for the phone and now today I noticed the hold they put on my credit card is gone. Also, when I log on to see the status of the phone....it says BACKORDERED!!!. How can this be, I received the email confirming, I logged on pretty early in the morning to reserve it, and they charged my credit card but then took it back????? I called ATT and they said I should receive it on the 24th as planned, but I have other friends who ordered the phone AFTER I did who already have confirmation emails saying it has been sent. WTF is going on here lol.

Avid is for mac as well, in fact it used to be mac only. CS5 is also for mac, the only major editing programs that aren't for mac are Sony Vegas and Grass Valley Edius, which don't have a major market share. So a 49% figure is probobaly accurate if you include the people running Avid and Adobe on Macs.
Yes, we still have a Media Composer that runs on OS8. Still kicking.
Maybe I misunderstood, but I was looking at just the number of people using FCP versus Avid in television and Film Production as the original poster had insinuated. I do maintain that more film and television editors are cutting using Avid software during their day jobs.

Let's back up for a moment. Why are screens in landscape mode to begin with? Because the CRTs, which were meant for video were. [see: RF modulator (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RF_modulator)] Mainstream computer screens should have mimicked books, newspapers, and documents rather than televisions, but that's not how it played out. So, unconsciously we adjusted to text in landscape. Kind of stupid, really.
Then came the laptop. Well, a landscape display continued to seem logical 'cause the keyboard was wide. Awesome!
And now we have tablets. Finally, a device in the proper book/newspaper/document orientation. But look! You can rotate it to view multi-media! Perfect! My twenty year wait is over! Wait, what? It's gonna run iOS instead of Mac OS X? Genius!
Laptops have always been a compromise, and thus the choice has always come down to personal preference. Please stop arguing that one is better than the other, because as some of us have been trying to tell you, you'd be wrong.
Wow, I think this is really interesting but i don't agree with you. I think the wider screen is the best option, I don't know why... You say you read from your iPad while it's in the same orientation of a page... I NEVER do that, I much prefer the wide orientation... So I guess it's comes down to some kind of unconscious preference... And maybe it's the same thing that make me comfortable on a 11" macbook air...

Because it's really easy to connect an iPod to your TV and watch your videos that way. There are also several peripherals (http://podophile.com/2006/07/26/memorex-announces-iflip-video-player-for-ipod/) coming out soon that add a larger wide screen to the iPod. And don't forget watching videos on your MacBook or MacBook pro.
Flowbee, that is my thought exactly...I think the next gen of ipod will come with an Ipod-->RCA cable; it makes the most sense and puts apple in a good position to be an on-demand competitor. Don't get cable tv? No problem, dump the show on your ipod via itunes, slap the cables in your tv and go.
Full screen video ipods are nice, but give people the chance to use their ipod like they'd use a dvd player (but be able to bring it with them to anyone's tv) and that's where the $$$ is in an itunes movie store.

Well, for as little as has changed from 10.4 to 10.5, I'd put my bets on vista having more bugs.
Actually, 10.5 changes a lot (so did 10.4). People underestimate the fundamental updates in an OS X release because Apple doesn't advertise those except to developers. It will certainly be worth the $120, especially compared to the whopping $400 for Vista Ultimate Edition (now with more branding!).
There's no doubt that Vista will be first - on track for November release....
But it's not available to the public. This is a ploy so that they can continue bugfixing it through the holidays while claiming it's out already. "See? We shipped on time! We were 'on track' after all!" ("on track" being a favorite phrase of Vista press releases, I've noticed).
Unfortunately, the consumer release has to wait until after the Saturnalia purchasing orgy - so some will ignore the millions of copies running at businesses and claim that Vista ships sometime in January.
No way will millions of copies be running at businesses. They'll be the last to upgrade from 2000/XP.
Remember, Vista ain't done 'til SP1! :)

Sooo...you don't see any problems that would occur if muslims became a majority there? Such as Iran part 2, sharia law. There's nothing racist about wanting israel to not become a muslim country. They wanted to partition it, but the palestinians wouldn't take that offer. they could have had their own "peaceful" nation by now. The chose not to, now they can deal with it. Let me ask you, would you consider yourself racist if muslims began playing a major role in canadian politics and imposing Islamic law on all canadians and you had a problem with it? Israel today is a modern secular nation, it is know as a "jewish" state, but their laws are secular. Why would they want to risk ruining all of that? They've made a great country out of the hell hole that land once was. You need to look at it from their POV. If the palestinians were peaceful secularists, there would be no problem right now.
Who said anything about a Muslim state? Please don't spin the topic.
It doesn't matter if the Palestinians were majority Christian, Muslim, Atheists, Spanish, Chinese etc... this solution would still not be possible because the fundamentalist Jews want it for Jews. They are "Jewish only" settlements for a reason. Even if the Palestinians were peaceful secularists (no doubt many are), Israel would still not allow a large influx of non-Jews because it would clash with the ideology upon which Israel was founded. This applies to everyone from Gazans wanting to become Israeli citizens to foreign workers from all over the world who work in Israel.
You can never compare Israel to countries like Canada or the US. In the latter countries, everyone regardless of religion or creed has equal rights and is equal under the law, whereas in the former, people of a certain religion are favoured, seen as superior. They are polar opposite ideologies. The Israelis have excellent PR, but at its core their ideology is not compatible with anything we here in the west consider modern or civilized. It is very much like that of the Arab states.
One final note, when Israel was created the majority population in the region was non-Jewish. To populate Israel with Jews, they shipped them from around the world. The problem is it is next to impossible to maintain a Jewish majority in an area where historically it has been majority non-Jewish, unless you kick a lot of people out, prevent them from coming back or travelling freely, and bring a lot of people in from abroad.
It's just despicable really. What's more sad is people who go out of their way to justify and defend this, without fully even knowing what it is they're justifying and defending.

I generally like the blendtec videos but seriously that guy is mental. He should be doing that under a hood and probably have a respirator on to.
Also I don't really appreciate them blending Apple stuff, nor does it seem like a good story for mac rumors unless the plan is to get pissed off at blendtec :D
Although it was pretty cool that you could still see the screen / keyboard on, even after is was partly bent in half / cracked.

Man, I really want Apple to get in this space.
Every phone on the market sucks.
The carriers are all dirt bags.
The integration between phone and computer is not happening since MS sucks, and there are too many walls between the players.
This is a huge market. Dive in Apple and change the game yet again.
We're waiting with our wallets open.
QFT....every word of it!

From the description of a touchpad I'm seeing this as a full size tactile sensitive pad which can be configured by the overlay (using a unique ID) and a driver extension to accept the overlays input in whichever way is best suited to relay that input. Example: a keyboard overlay is just a matrix of buttons that when pressed would then press the pad and relay the key input. A drawing tablet overlay would relay input from it's entire surface like a Wacom. A mixing board would be able to use the sliders position of contact with the pad relative to preprogrammed x/y coords on the pad to relay it's input... even complex motions such as a knob tuner could be relayed via a swivel brush that would stroke the pad underneath in a preset arc that could be interpreted as correct input for a tuner, going through multiple 360 degree rotations.
This interface concept has a lot of possibilities... we'll see some of them, it's just too good of an idea.

Not gonna happen. For starters, how do you type in names for your audio tracks when you've got your keyboard swapped for a mixer? :)
Still, neat idea.
External keyboard [and mouse]? I think this is a wicked idea - might compromise the 'laptop' status a little bit, but I wouldn't think that you'd use a 'music keyboard' or 'mixer' configuration on your lap anyway.

So you could theoretically build and conceal tracking stations all over the place and thus monitor these short-range transmissions. Wouldn't it be simpler just to hide cameras all over?
It would be much simpler to get a radio tracking system (like they use on wildlife) for like $500 and drop the transmitter in their bag, purse, tape it to their car, etc. You can do alot of things in theory. Practicality usually brings people to the easier means....

I would just like to report that I received iPad #4 last night - no problems, looks beautiful and zero light leakage, also passed the dead or stuck pixel test so I'm very happy. Genius bar and the people at local Apple store were extremely helpful even adding "if you still have any problems in a couple months just bring it back and we'll exchange at that time"
I didn't wait in any lines whatsoever, iPad was ordered online right when they went on sale so I received shipment fairly quickly with iPad #1. It was just good customer service by the "Genius" working for me.
That's good to hear -- sorry for my assumptions. I think I was just a bit too worn from everybody swearing up and down that their iPhone 4 was dropping calls more than their other smart phones that I couldn't help but think "here we go again" when this light leakage thing started coming out. Honestly, some of those light leakage photos in the thread are no worse (and often better) than many LCD monitors I have owned. Some of them are pretty darn bad though. I'm glad to hear that Apple took care of it. Again, my apologies.
On the bright side... just think you have owned 4 iPad 2's in a time period that most folks have yet to get one. :)

Uh oh. Looks like I struck a nerve, right where it hurts (the ego), to a luxury car driver.
Acura's are made with Honda parts. So why don't they cost as much as Hondas? Because you're paying for the "prestige" of showing off to other people how you can afford a higher car payment than them.
Ever read The Millionaire Next Door? It's a book about fiscal responsibility and the traits of those that have it and the traits of those that don't. 95% of millionaires in the U.S. don't drive luxury cars. They have more sense than that. It's the wannabees and people that place ego above fiscal responsibility that spend more than they have to on an automobile.
Simple as that. Don't like it, take it up with the PhD's that researched and wrote the book. Sorry to call you out on why exactly you pulled the trigger on your ill-advised purchase. I'm not coming on here saying I'm perfect. I have my flaws too. It's just that one of them isn't the overpowering desire to impress others with my material goods at all costs.
You're making a straw man argument by bringing up the Honda/Acura comparison. That's not what people have been arguing. People have been arguing that there *is* something unique about the Mac product *itself* that isn't tied to the branding or the perceived "prestige".
As I mentioned before, it's like comparing a fully loaded Ford Taurus with an entry level BMW. Driving a Ford Taurus is never going to *feel* like driving a BMW. The handling is going to feel totally different. Believe or not, some car buyers are loyal to a particular brand and are willing to pay more, for reasons that have nothing to do with prestige. I mentioned BMW's handling but it could be something else like: safety (e.g. Volvo, at least in the old days), reliability (e.g. Lexus, consistently top rated by Consumer Reports), comfort/smooth ride (e.g. Mercedes). The point is, you're missing the point if you think a Mac's appeal is only as a status symbol.

http://www.sun.com/servers/coolthreads/t1000/[/url].
If you always have lots of active threads, and you're concerned about overall throughput and not how fast each thread runs, then the Sun T1000 might make sense. It's similar to the Blue Gene, in that it has lots of slow processors. (The T1000 is 4-way Hyper-Threaded per core, and most of us understand the issues with hyperthreading.)
The Woodcrest has much faster performance per thread, but only has four cores (threads) per dual socket system.
Also note that Sun's power, performance and heat claims haven't been updated - they're still comparing their systems to Netburst Xeons, not Woodcrest.
