Choosing the right length necklace

Choosing the right length necklace

Author: The Carpenters Daughter

Choosing the right necklace all depends on the type of neckline you're wearing. First, choose your outfit. Now look at your neckline – are you wearing a strapless top, a V-neck, a turtleneck, a halter-top or something completely different? Is your shirt high- or low-cut?

Strapless tops look best with chokers or princess length (falls to the collarbone) necklaces. The chunkiness of the choker mirrors the horizontal line of the top of your shirt and helps break up the bare skin over your shoulders.

A princess length necklaces also looks great peeking out from open-collared shirts.

If you're wearing a turtleneck or crew-neck jumper, a long, dangling necklace adds interest to your outfit.

A halter-neck or one-shoulder outfit doesn't need a necklace, as the strap details are interesting enough. Wear other jewellery like a fun hairpiece, bracelets or rings.

A V-neck top needs a V-shaped necklace, so a pendent always looks good.

Remember that jackets, coats and shawls can altar the neckline of an outfit. If you plan on wearing your coat for most of the evening, try it on in front of the mirror with your chosen necklace to see how it looks.

Remember, a necklace can dress up, or dress down, an outfit. Bright, funky beads make a great daytime accessory, while an elegant silver chain with a dainty charm can dazzle up your evening wear. When looking for necklaces, choose a few "statement" pieces you really like, and a few plainer pieces that work well with any outfit.
