Choosing A Hairstyle Which Suits The Shape Of Your Face
By April Harvey
No matter how many times you change your hairstyle it just doesn't look or feel right. Sounds familiar? It could just be that the style you have chosen does not compliment the actual shape of your face. In our opinion, the answer lies in identifying what your face shape actually is. Armed with this information it should be easier to choose a hairstyle that compliments your features. We hope the guide below helps you decide what styles should suit you best.
Round shaped face:
If this best describes your face then the intention here will be to choose a style that helps to slim the face. To prevent your face looking too full pick a hairstyle that creates more volume at the crown of the head rather than the sides. Try not to opt for a full fringe or a center parting as this will not compliment your features. If you are used to having a parting then ensure it is off-center to help break up the roundness. Should you prefer a short look then avoid a slicked back look or curls, instead choose a style with waves or with soft movement.
Oval shaped face:
Well if this is your category then you are very fortunate as there are next to no hairstyles that won't suit you! Whether you desire a short, medium or long hairstyle then any of these should suit your features perfectly.
However try to avoid a style that covers your face in some way, as this can give the impression of your face appearing more fuller. Have fun though as you are lucky enough to try just about any hairstyle you wish and still look great.
Heart shaped face:
This best describes those of you whose face appears wider at the forehead tapering down to a small chin. We would advise not to choose a hairstyle that adds height or body to the top of your head. By doing so, this will ensure your chin does not appear smaller than it is. Ideally what we would want to do is actually the opposite, thereby making the jaw line look fuller. This can be accomplished with a shaggy, curlier or wavy style about chin length which would be about the perfect length for your shape.
Square shaped face:
Typically characterised by those of us with a strong jaw line. I would say that I would fit into this category myself and what I look for is a style that softens the look. This can often be achieved by choosing a drawn back look where the shapes of the cheekbones are accentuated. Opting for a style which incorporates waves, curls or layers can also help to distract from the jaw line.
Long or Thin faced shape:
Ideally something like a bob cut is an ideal choice for this type of face. The primary intention is to avoid wearing your hair just straight down. What we are seeking to do is opt for a hairstyle that adds volume to the sides of your head, thereby giving the impression of more width.
On your next visit to your hairdresser discuss with them further the shape of your face. Find out from them their recommended style which they think will suit the shape of your face best.
