Keeping Your Skin Safe From The Sun

Author: Linda john

When the sun is out and its a beautiful summers day, the last thing we tend to think about is protecting our skin from the sun. The truth however is that skin cancer is one of the biggest killers in the world today and failing to protect yourself from the sun, can expose you to some serious risk. Apart from skin cancer, there is also a range of dangers that the sun pose to your skin. People who are exposed to direct UV-A and UN-B tends to have skin that ages prematurely and age spots and other skin imperfections are usually tell-tale signs of excessive time in the sun.

So, does this mean you have to lock yourself indoors for the rest of your life? No! All it means is that you have to get smart and take some basic precautions. Here are a few essential tips that can help you stay safe while enjoying all the fun in the sun.

1. Sunscreen - We've all heard this a million times but it really is that important. Wear a sunscreen with a SPF of at least 30 and if you use a moisturizer then it can go a long way towards helping you add an extra layer of protection for everyday exposure.

2. Protective Clothing - Wearing protective clothing can help a lot. A hat is the first and most obvious choice as it will protect your scalp and more importantly provide shade for your face and neck. Shirts that have a UV resistance is also very effective - especially for kids who spend a lot of time in the sun and who can burn very easily.

3. Time Of The Day
Its amazing how some people can still spend 3 or 4 hours a day working on their summer tan - especially if this is between 12 and 2 when the sun is at its harshest. Between 12 and 2 the sun is at its highest and the UV is at its most intense. Staying out of the sun during this time can really go a long way towards keeping you safe.
