A day in the life of a city worker...

...well my first week is over and I am exhausted (tiring starting a new job isn't it?). I've already got myself into a routine and worked out what trains to get. One of things about living out in the 'country' is that I'm not exactly within walking distance of a mainline station so I have to drive to the station, park up and catch the train (wouldn't swap it for the world though as I have the best of both worlds). Fortunately I have sussed out that I can walk from London Bridge to the office so I don't need to get on the dreaded tube so I save some money on the ticket and also some time. I've been leaving the house at 6.45 and getting into the office at 8.10 which is pretty good going I think. I know some people who live in zone 3 and have a similar commute (obviously their tickets are a quarter of the price!).

I'm very pleased with the company. I did have quite a few interviews as I wanted to be absolutely certain I chose a good place that didn't have all the same issues as my last company - no sense in going from the frying pan into the fire. Well, everyone is really nice, all quite young (not like some of the dinosaurs I used to work with), it's independent (but owed by a corporation so financially more secure) so we have much more say over how to do things. On a more trivial note, I like the fact that there is a break room (didn't have that before) and that there's free bread, which means I've been having proper breakfast and my lunches have been costing me 50p (beans, spaghetti, ravioli on toast). I think having a deadline like having to get a train is good for focusing me to leave on time so I will probably be at home earlier than before ironically. All in all, I think working in London suits me far better than I thought it would and I can catch up on all the reading I've been missing out on.

Now on to the important matter of the finished side board. What do you think? :-)

The boiler should be fitted next week and then we are going to get some quotes in for all the building work we need (new kitchen, bathroom, driveway, electrics, plastering) - looks like we can get some of it done very soon afterall!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
