Surya, the superstar of Tamil film industry who had wowed the audiences in Tamil version of ‘Ghajini’ before Aamir Khan created box office records in Hindi remake, is all set to play the character of Rancho in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s super duper hit flick ‘3 Idiots’.
Sources from Chennai say that the Gemini Film Circuit has already been talking to the makers of Aamir Khan-Kareena Kapoor starrer ‘3 Idiots’ for its Tamil rights and once the formalities are complete, the movie will go on the floors. However, two other heroes to enact the characters of R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi are yet to be finalized.
There is also a buzz that R Madhavan may be roped in the Tamil version of the flick to play the same role, as he has experience of playing roles in Tamil film industry and does not have any objection to it. The character of Kareena Kapoor is likely to be essayed by some hot heroine from the southern film industry. There are plans to remake the film in Telugu too.
Sources from the Tamil film industry say that remaking of ‘3 Idiots’ in Tamil should not be difficult for Gemini as they had earlier made Rajkumar hirani’s super hit flick ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ with Kamal Haasan in the lead. They had even gone for a Telugu version with Chiranjeevi playing the lead.
However, there are some dissenting voices about the fate of ‘3 Idiots’ in southern film industry. In fact, sources point out that the audiences in the south prefer action movies like ‘Ghajini’ more than ‘3 Idiots’, which is based on human relationships.
The industry watchers say that movies like Rajnikant’s ‘Sivaji’ did booming business in South because of its action content. In fact, southern superstars prefer to cater to masses than classes and so films like ‘3 Idiots’ have scope only at the multiplexes in these areas.
‘3 Idiots’ is based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel ‘Five Point Someone’ and is directed by Rajkumar Hirani of ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ fame. Aamir Khan made the movie super hit by his innovative marketing techniques and superb acting skills.
It may be recalled that remaking ‘3 Idiots’ in Tamil will also be sort of a repay time for Aamir Khan, who had played Surya’s character in Hindi version of ‘Ghajini’ and created box officer records in the country and abroad.
