[View from the 'Roses room' out the back of our house.]
I was looking at this lovely dresser and I thought I would post about it.
I bought this dresser on ebay a couple of years ago at a snip. It's in absolutely immaculate condition and dates from 1900. This is where all the pretty delicate items are kept. The dresser lives in Tim's office (really the small sitting room or 'snug' as some people call it). This part of the house used to be the Cobbler's shop in Victorian times - the picture in the grey frame is of the the cobbler and his wife and son.
I love Victorian cranberry glass it's so pretty. I only have a few things that my grandma bought for me - I like to keep them safe in here. Interesting fact: do you know what they add to the glass to get the cranberry colour?......gold! I also love these green glasses with the really pretty etching on. My grandma also gave me these, she has such good taste!
I have decorated this room so that it feels very masculine and funnily enough all the men who come round seem to gravitate towards this room! The chesterfield sofa was another bargain at £50. I had to have the cushions re-stuffed but other than that it is in lovely condition. I saw one just yesterday in an antiques shop (same colour and size) for a whopping £295 so I was feeling very pleased with myself!
Yesterday I had the acting course again and afterwards I had a wander around the flea market and antiques shops. While I was there I also popped to Cath Kidston and bought the large stanley purse, this gorgeous door stop (earlier in the day Tim had been complaining about the draught coming through the back door) and some of that green gingham oilcloth.
You all know how much I love what I call the 'Roses corner' - I added some fresh flowers to accompany the view. I just love watching the birds from up here!
I almost forgot (how could I?) - I had a fabulous time on Thursday at Marcus Wareing's restuarant at the Berkley. If you ever get the chance and have saved up the money (the bill is not for the feint hearted) then I highly recommend a visit. The service was excellent and the food was out of this world. Eight courses of heaven on a plate. My favourite was the 'pre dessert', which was a passion fruit jelly with a voilet sorbet. Just devine! I'm afraid I don't have any pictures because I thought it might look a little bit, well, touristy - I didn't want to show anyone up! It wasn't at all stuffy, it had a nice and relaxed atmosphere and the waiting staff were really friendly! The maitre de was very friendly and kindly showed us around the kitchen. I hate to say it, but there was no shouting or swearing and the kitchen was immaculate! We have decided that we would rather not leave the house for 6 months and go to a lovely restaurant like that twice a year. So, the next stop is going to Heston's restaurant The Fat Duck.
Oops, almost forgot to show you this basket I picked up from Nutley Antiques. It's got lovely green stripes and will look lovely next to the fireplace storing the kindling.
