Make do and mend

We've had to make do and mend with a things things in this house because we really stretched ourselves to limit to buy it, and the bathroom is no exception. I've no doubt it will be jam sandwiches for lunch and no holidays for 10 years. Still, lots of people my age are holidaying but either have no house or a tiny flat so it swings in roundabouts. I'm very grateful for what I have!
Here's a taster of a few things we have done over the last few weeks.

We have a 'delightful' peach suite to try and work with until such time as we can afford to get a new bathroom. I know that a bathroom suite doesn't cost much but we want to relocate the bathroom door and add in a separate shower at some stage so I'm loathe to waste money on an in between bathroom. With that in mind I decided to try and make living with the bathroom as bearable as possible. I still need to make a new blind and a nice floral shower curtain when I'm feeling up to it (been off because of my neck) but I'm thrilled with the results so far!

Total makeover budget:

Paint = free, used up a couple of old tins of white eggshell

Wallpaper on cabinet = £1.50 in the bargain basement bin in LA

Oilcloth = approx £1.50 from my stash

Jewel handles = £9.00 for 6

Ceramic handles = £2.50, leftover from another makeover

CK bath mat = £15.00

Jewel hearts x 2 = £2.99

Light pendant = £12 from Asda

Total = approx £45

I already had the baskets, pitcher, stool, and the bed pan is a family heirloom. I made the 2 lavender hearts, and all the pictures.

We also painted the kitchen and tidied it up a bit and it's now one of my favourite places to be in the house. Of course in an ideal world when I win the lottery I'd like an aga and a belfast sink (can you believe in our last house we had a lovely big range cooker and a belfast sink!?).

I'm thrilled with the results though and I can't stop standing and admiring the kitchen every time I pass by (is that sad?!).

Among the most successful things has been building the kerb at the front. The front of the house no longer gets absolutely soaked because the water now runs down the gulley. We've had a few days of rain recently and it seems to be working so hopefully fingers crossed that should help keep the damp away this winter.

I haven't been up to much lately because of my neck and I've been so busy at work. I can't wait to get back to it soon!

Hope you're all having a good week.
