A little peice of history...

I love doing research into old houses but unfortunately we couldn't find anything out about our old house. I was really pleased when the previous owners told us that the house used to be a cobbler's shop and they even had an old picture of the cobbler and his family (we think the picture was probably taken around 1900). It used to be plonked in a frame that didn't do it any justice at all so I mounted it and put it in a nice frame. I find it fascinating looking at the picture and trying to imagine what it must have been like inside. I actually think the house looks much nicer now with all the Wisteria at the front then it did back then. It is interesting to see that the windows were painted white (presumably off white), often Victorian houses had black (or dark blue/green) windows. I love old buildings and don't think I could ever move to a new build, I know they can cost more to maintain and the single-glazed windows and poor insulation make them not exactly 'eco friendly' but in my humble opinion you just can't recreate character when it's not there!

P.S. Oreos have a creamy inside much like that of a custard cream and the dark biscuit is a bit like that of a Bourbon biscuit only it's much thinner.
