8th Annual We Are Family Foundation Celebration Gala Hosts Star-Studded Fête,
Celebrating Global Partners of All Ages
The red carpet glittered with stars at The Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City for the recent 8th Annual We Are Family FoundationCelebration Gala. The star-studded VIP guest list included Founder Nile Rodgers, co-hosts Mo Rocca and Rosie Perez, Steven Van Zandt, Kate Pierson, Joanna Bennett, U.S. Senator Mark Warner, Ethan Bortnick, U.S. Special Representative Farah Pandith, Bruce Weber, Nan Bush, David and Susan Rockefeller Jr., Seward and Joyce Johnson, Donna D’Cruz and Celebrity Hairstylist, Angelo David. The honorees also took the time to pose and talk to the media, whom this year were Jackson Browne, Imam Muhammad Ashafa and Pastor James Wuye, and Norma and Russ Ramsey.
The exciting live auction had a number of priceless items, and bringing in $35,000 the top earner was a guitar signed by Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band (as well as two tickets to 2011 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Awards next spring!), a music-lover’s dream organized by Steven Van Zandt. Other big ticket items included a portrait sitting with famed fashion photographer Bruce Weber for $25,000, and a private one-on-one lesson with Jackson Brown that included a signed custom “Jackson Browne” guitar plus lunch for $20,000. In addition, Tekserve donated mystery envelopes containing iTunes store gift certificates, and a lucky few with iPods.
After receiving the evening’s Humanitarian Award, Jackson Browne joined Nile Rodgers and Steven Van Zandt on stage, performing a selection of fan-favorites, including “Running on Empty” and “Somebody’s Baby,” which brought guests to their feet. Afterwards, Nile Rodgers and CHIC took over, performing such iconic tunes as “Le Freak,” “Good Times” and “I’m Coming Out” before the honorees, Foundation team and guests took the stage together to close the evening with a show-stopping rendition of “We Are Family.”
